I wouldn't have said that there WERE 20 distinct "adventure bikes".    If there's only 22, it sort of makes the job of choosing the 20 best easy .... !!

I have not seen the article, but I thought the same. I suppose if you start splitting BMW's GS and Triumph's Tiger lines into their individual models you can make your way to 20 and beyond fairly easily...

I'm with Lannis on this one; they listed about all.  Worthless article unless you want to know all the adv. bikes out there.  I'd love to know how much research actually went into those picks <yeah right>.

Jerry, when someone states these are the "Best" they better talk about why they are considered "Best".  They simply put the "Best" in the heading to grab attention, then went on to list about every ADV bike.  The content doesn't match the title and it's silly.  There is NO content regarding his picks.  So... are these really the best?  Why?  It's nice to see the pictures in one place of the different bikes (as well as a chosen Guzzi).  If the title read "20 ADV bikes to consider" then this would have been perfect for the content.  Now you know why we're being critical.

Also, "Mens Journal" is a general "lifestyle magazine", having nothing to do, usually, with motorcycles.    We, however, are hugely focused on motorcycles.

So we're sort of like a bunch of Sandia PhD physicists critiquing a "Popular Science" article on "How An Atom Smasher Works".....

It is nice that there is at least a basic article in that magazine. A lot of guys may be casually thinking about a motorcycle, thumbing through a magazine while waiting for their turn in the barber's chair. I imagine some of them don't even know Moto Guzzi was an option. Hopefully now they do.

The article is an amateur act. "Fjord" for ford?  Really?

The Stelvio writeup says, in effect, "This Italian bike may be unreliable but if you like that sort of thing, this is the sort of thing you'd like."

They don't mention reliability in the Aprilia or Ducati pieces.

Saw this jut a few minutes ago.  Its tough NOT to picture yourself hauling it around like a boss when you see someone making it look this effortless.  It's proabably mostly the bike, right?  Won't lie, makes me want one. . .

Beautiful countryside, and really off-the-wall skillful riding.

But it might as well be another planet as far as me wanting a KTM now to ride in the dirt.   Sort of like watching guys climb school buses on GasGas trials bikes doesn't make me want to buy one ... 'cause I ain't doin' all that!

Was the TW 200 near the top?  It is one of the best.  Its' only shortcoming is too small a gas tank.

I consider that an awful lot of bikes fall in to that category.  Without dissing HD,  for the life of me I could never work out why they put peanut tanks on some of their cruisers.

I consider that an awful lot of bikes fall in to that category.  Without dissing HD,  for the life of me I could never work out why they put peanut tanks on some of their cruisers.

They've always done that.  Old 74s from the 50s and 60s had 3.5 gallon TOTAL dual tanks.   Sportsters had 1.9 gallon tanks.   All the BSAs and Triumphs for the American market had tanks around 2.5 to 3 gallons, where the "Home Market" bikes for the UK and Europe had 4 and 5 gallon tanks.

I think it's because motorcycles have never (present company excluded, of course) been serious transportation in the USA.   They've always been toys for a 50-mile ride in the mountains, or for cruising the beach, or running bar to bar.   And since small tanks looked cooler and cleaner than the big bulbous ones meant to carry lots of fuel, then small tanks is what we got, and the few people that DID ride long distances changed tanks or came up with another solution.

In the UK, bikes were used where we'd use a car; for getting to work, or with a hack for carrying the family down to the seashore on a bank holiday.   They were serious transportation, mostly, and NOT toys.    Quite a few of the guys I ride with locally don't put 500 miles on their bikes in a year.   You could have a 2-quart gas tank on those and still be happy .....

Aren't all bikes "Adventure Bikes"?

Three of us rode  Cali's to the Dust-2-Dawson NAR over summer solstice one year.  It's one of the larger 'adv' gatherings in North America.  Many hundreds of somehow unique but identical examples of the streetrunning dirt bike motif.  I was lectured by several patient event vets that I had the wrong tool for the job -- to do ADVENTURE riding REQUIRES an ADVENTURE bike.  My only defense was that I feel my bike isn't the adventure -- what I do with it is.

Oh no, that's ME!!!!!!

When I could do serious mountain biking I found that cooling the head was a necessity. Grab clippers, put on the #4 comb and pastafazzoola, cool and cheap (Guzzi content) haircut.  still doin' it after 5.1/2 years off the bike. ;D

Haaa!

I figured if I could clipper cut a wriggling cocker spaniel, then I could give myself a trim.  Maybe it looks like the spaniel's got even- I don't care.  Saves $15.
