Stearman flight...........NGC
« on: May 16, 2015, 09:58:39 PM »
Got my free Stearman flight this week in between rain and thunderstorms. My first time in anything like this.  What a hoot.  It was only 15-20 minutes but I could have stayed up till the fuel ran low.  Also found out I can buy AvGas ($3.85/gal) as long as I don't put it directly into a vehicle.  No ethanol, 100 octane and low lead (no more mixing lead substitute).  What a great day.

Nice!  Looks like a couple of happy guys in your pic!

I went up in a Stearman a few years back, and think I ended up with a similar grin ..... pure happiness!

To find the fuel by zip code and comp prices, should a fella "need" it:

http://www.airnav.com/fuel/local.html

As much as a $3.00 span in my vicinity.

jbell,

What a fantastic aircraft!  Must have been a hoot.

We used to run Avgas in our racing snowmobiles back in the seventies.  Really helped up at 11,000 feet altitude.

thanks!

Run 100LL in the V50 - fiberglass tank; although epoxied, can't risk EtOH.
.....and my LeMans and Airheads occasionally. Lead content is higher than old time leaded auto fuel so watch for plug fouling. Hasn't been a problem for mine so far.

A Stearman was the first fixed wing aircraft I ever flew in (first aircraft period was a Robinson R22) . Did that at The Flying Circus in Bealton, VA in '93(?). Went back a few years later and did the aerobatic ride. Great fun both times, should really do it again sometime.
