Questions on Nat'L Rally in June
« on: May 17, 2015, 03:18:04 PM »
I was planning on taking 2 days to enjoy the ride to there, spend Saturday there and and riding home on Sunday.
I didn't know if riders hang out there on Saturday or are out riding and exploring the area?

How many are expected to attend?
Are there vendors there selling Guzzi stuff?
Do they have field events, tech seminars, etc?

I've been to many BMW nat'l rallys. Just wondering what the Guzzi nat'l is like.

Conact Randy Tefft, the NH Guzzi Rep  and the organizer. He can give you the straight skinny instead of a bunch of wild guesses from the KERA.

See you there.

The higher the number on the left under your name, the higher your standing in the KERA.  :D

But it resets to zero if you actually ride to a National rally ..... !

It will be much, much smaller than beemer Nationals.  Some small vendors probably-- mostly t-shirts and little stuff.

Probably no tech seminars or field events, but it will be full of friendly people.  Plenty of folks will be around Saturday during the day and lots will be out riding.  You'll have no problem striking up conversations.

Rather than start a new thread, thought I’d just semi-hijack this one to ask a question that has been on my mind for some time: rally registration.

I am, as I have said here numerous times, not a rally sort of guy.

I use them as occasional excuses to go somewhere different and see some folks whom I know only here.

For example, I plan to go to New Hampshire and stop in at the national rally.

But, I don’t camp, eat meals, seek a tee (unless I like it and buy separately), or engage in any rally activities.

As I have in my own official and private life organized numerous events, I very much appreciate the sponsors’ sweat in putting these things together.  I always toss in a (generous) piece of folding money if I take so much as a cup of coffee.

But, am I morally obligated to register and pay for a rally that I only participate in a "drive-by” sense?

Thanks.

Bill

I'll be there with master Guzzi tech Jim Hamlin from Hamlin Cycles in CT.  He's always good about talking shop and answering questions.

The answer is Yes, you ARE morally and ethically obligated.  ;-T   Your "generous" expression of appreciation for the sponsors' sweat is your rally registration fee.  I always pay the full fee even if I'm just visiting part time.   And if I'm not able to go, I don't ask for a refund - I consider that I am also a "sponsor" for the rally in some sense, and my money represents my little bit of "sweat".

We fixed-income retirees know how to make a penny scream, but we ought not make them scream around our rally organizers!   ;)

Semi-off topic, if anyone needs a place to camp/rest/recover etc in west/central Massachusetts, we have plenty of space and shelter in West Brookfield. Trailer recovery and repair assistance is also available. Swimming and BBQ perhaps, for the weary.

I will likely go up on Saturday (paying my fee) but I'll have my cell available as the day gets closer.

I have the travel trailer packed with the EV.  I am heading to the Indy 500 and hope to travel NE to the WNY and National.  Looks like a month on the road.

Leaving in a half hour.

well crap.  It's come undone.  The EV fell over in the travel trailer. Crushed the right side Hepco Becker bag, bent the rear fender and tore up the tailight.

It was tight as hell but I must've starpped it at a bad angle (straight down) on the canyon dancer.  She fell over on the right side.

Having some pizza in St Louis and crashing in a motel.

Right now, I am not sure if I'll head home after the race or I can fix it on the road.
