I found this on my driveway after coming back from a ride. It doesn't look like any Guzzi part I can remember, but I thought I'd check. Look familiar? It is drilled for a split pin.

No trailer or lawn mower (thankfully!). The pins in the garage doors are smaller and none seem to be missing.

As long as it's not something from a bike or car, I'm not especially worried.

I'm not near them now but if memory serves, my 80's Suzukis have a similar pin on the calipers complete with same retainer hole.

Yup, looking at one of my Calis out back - how about a pad retaining pin from a caliper.

3 inches long and looks like a caliper pad retainer pin.

too clean to be a brake pin. what bike? seat hinge pin? what other cars, bikes or appliances use the space where you found it?

A brake pin would be my biggest concern, but I don't see anything like this in the parts diagrams, and it doesn't have any brake dust or grease or anything on it: it is completely clean and dry. I think the seat hinge is a screw/bolt assembly.

Typical garage stuff around: Subaru, lots of miscellaneous junk. But I did a welding job on a friend's riding mower recently, so that's a possibility--I sent him a query.

At first glance it looks a lot like a pin securing the rear brake linkage on my 80 CX100,,, but the 3 inch scale is way off.

I don't want to scare you, but,,, I haven't done a lot of mechanic work,,, but I'm sure that I've worked on some of my old rusty cars & trucks, that had pins like that in the brake calipers, securing the pads,,, with fragile littlle springy attachments, that secured the 2 pins passing through the whole assembly. On my old vehicles the pins were usually seized and tough to get out,,, if you drive newer vehicles, you may want to check out the design of the calipers on your vehicles,, if they have pins like this,, might be worthwhile taking a close look at them.

Some kid walking down the street finds a pin and picks it up. He idly plays with it for half a block then tosses it up your drive causing you much worry.

My guess was close - it's a "Wings Fall Off" pin when someone on an airliner missed the Audio button and pushed the one beside it ....

:+1 on the brake pin.

No reason to assume its of a bike though - could be it fell off a car and just bounced onto your drive.

Any clues like a lamp post on the ground or a big chunk out of a nearby tree ;D

My first thought was the pin retaining the clutch actuating arm on the gbx end case, but not sure of the scale. Besides it could not be that anyway as if it was missing the first time you called on the clutch the arm would come out and you'd have no clutch. ::)

Yes, I did a little welding job for a friend, and we did take the deck/mower off. I sent a msg and he asked me to hold on to it. Wouldn't be so great for the mower to be missing this either.

We're pretty far from the road, so it isn't likely to be a part that dropped off a passing vehicle. Lots of junk in the garage though.
