Small block engine swap
« on: June 07, 2015, 10:32:36 PM »
I have a 1984 Moto Guzzi V65C and I am coming up short with finding parts to do a full engine rebuild.  I was wondering what motors I could swap in and still use my existing transmission etc

I suggest you pm Steamdriven,  he put a 750 Nevada in his Monza.  I know there were some hiccups with the 500 recipient, but I think the 650 is closer to the 750 as far as the engines go.

i have an early v35 ( 1977 mk1) with a late monza engine in and it was a straight swap, even used original 24mm carbs and exhaust system, just up-jetted to suite, goes like stink and the 24mm carbs make it lovely and torquey

Only problems I had was converting the front oil seal to suite my older Bosch alternator, swapping from Bosch electronic ignition  to the later points.  Was plain sailing most of way

You have to make sure you can rig up the ignition system that works with the new engine and that you use the clutch that matches your gearbox.

I helped with a strada 750 engine going into a v50 , and fitted no problems but the cam shaft did not have a peg on for the points drive and we did not have access to the scrapped strada and ended up swapping cams to one with the drive peg

the very very early starter motors with the remote solenoid  dont turn the larger engines over well cold as the later common bosch with the solonoid on top
