Oh the Huge Manatee! (NGC, but pretty funny)
« on: June 11, 2015, 08:24:02 AM »
I was out in the pine barrens yesterday really enjoying the new wider bars I recently put on the Sporty and loving how the somewhat shady roads through the trees felt like a cool breeze on a day with such low humidity and temps around 80F. Actually at times it was that feeling you probably all know, like you just jumped into a pool or lake of cool water. It's so nice to ride on days like that.

Anyway, I had just crossed a more major route where I needed to look both ways and dodge potential cross-traffic when something on an old rail overpass caught my eye.

I had just processed it as I continued on my back road through the woods when I started cracking up and had to U-turn to grab a pic.

I don't even know where to start the commentary on the state of our education system:

I'm having trouble getting my mind down to the level of an illiterate vandal (no reflection on you, I admire your flexibility).

I see "Trader's Get Stitches" and "Yo" painted on there.   Does that mean something?   Just sounds random to me ... ?

Maybe he doesn't like people who buy and sell things, as opposed to people who turn against the country, but the apostrophe kills any benefit of the doubt.  I have a couple photos like that, but unfortunately they're slides, so I need to digitize them.

OK? So, guessing game? I too am a bit lost but I do see a triangle with what looks like an eye and a rough approximation of something that could be construed as a Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Perhaps it's something from the American domain lost on us furriners?

Alternatively it's staring me full in the face and I'm just dumber than dogshit!

Probably the latter........

Pete

PS, yes, I missed the apostrophe. That's OK, Jude caught it.

I'm so flexible one of my many nicknames is "Gumby damnit."

I'm gonna have to assume that the vandal was going for the colloquial phrase "Snitches Get Stitches" or at least some variant.

The obvious guess would be they were aiming for "Traitors Get Stitches"

Unless as TJ suggest they were trying to make a social-political message.

I briefly entertained that it was an attempt at a quasi-anti-capitalist statement, but again, as TJ points out I had to dismiss it for the improper use of the possessive.

OK, again??? So, Traitors get stitches? What does this mean? Do traitors run a lot and get muscle cramps? Perhaps if you are traitorous this person feels that you should be compelled to knit as some form of punishment? As you can see I'm still struggling a bit........

As I said earlier, the colloquial phrase is "Snitches get stiches" meaning "rats" or "informants" are punished (cut).

I think said vandal was going for that, attempting to substitute the word "traitor" for "snitch".

And it all went wrong from there...

Perhaps in the southern hemisphere sutures are not commonly called "stitches".

I got the traitors v. traders thing now.   We're just a long way from any significant gangs here (if there are any they're very quiet and don't bother me or show up on police blotters), so I don't know the lingo.    Our sheriff is committed to help make sure I don't know it ...

Sadly, you can see, on a daily basis,  felonious assaults on the English language as severe or worse than this one, in daily papers. While I admit to being rather illiterate,  and guilty of perpetrating multiple fouls upon the usage of the written and spoken work,  journalists should do better than this knuckle dragger. If not them, then at least their editors.  I fear we are devolving back to communicating via grunts rather than by spoken or written word.    :violent1:

The reference is actually more pop culture than actual gangs (well, as far as I know, I have jack all experience with actual gangs, outside of some 1%'s I've known but kept distance from).

I really doubt there are any actual gangs in the pine barrens (though there may be some Pagan activity).

I suspect this is more the result of an angst-ridden middle-class white, bad-boy wannabe than an actual gang member, though it wouldn't surprise me if drugs were involved.

Penderic or someone will be along in a second with the annotated "photoshop" photograph.   It's funnier when you see it for the first time, rather than trying to explain it ..... !

Or just Google "Oh the huge manatee" and you'll get it.

I know that overpass!  Nothing gang related there, they know how to spell "snitch".  Definitely some backwater "Piney" who made the attempt.

Maybe we should cut them some slack, they did have to write it upside down!

So, let's see (NPI)...
Our first frame is an artistic indictment of the Federal Reserve, Illuminati, Bilderburg, et al, ad nauseam... with a trailing - supporting all seeing eye " representin' "

Second frame is a commentary on health care woes of merchants. This could be relative to ObamaCare or the state of workplace Organizing these days... Fellow Traveler?

The third frame is the work of a mathematician trying desperately though passively to get the word out on the significance of "216"... Platonic Cubists UNITE!... or form up as it were.

I'm going to choose to believe that the third panel is a statement of support for particular art-panel periodicals and I further choose to believe that it calls for a return to the earlier, clearer days of the Justice Society of America (Golden Age) when things made sense and "inclusion" related to the sciences exclusive of societal connotations.

But really, I just wanna say... Witchi-Tai-To.....

'Cause, in the end, everything is really nothing more than everything.

In 1984 I moved to the Maryland suburbs of DC.   On the outer belt of the 495 right as the Morman Temple came into view, replete with gold leaf spires and towers and the Angel Moroni on top.  Right as you found yourself admiring the architecture the road passed under a bridge.  On the bridge in huge letters was two words:  FREE DORATHY !   It was there for years.

They eventually took down the solid wall on the bridge (a pedestrian bridge if I remember) and put up chain-link type fence to prevent painting.

So next year whoever was doing it spelled it in bits of paper, one bit stuck in each hole in the chain link fence.

"SURRENDER DOROTHY", actually.   Remember that the Witch was doing the skywriting ....
