Author Topic: Valve Adjustment Tool for 10mm nut and slotted adjuster ... any good?  (Read 3431 times)

Just got this 10mm Valve Adjustment Tool I ordered, yesterday - haven't used it yet. Has a nice feel to it.

I just did the adjustment last week the old way - with wrench and screw driver. All the screwdrivers I have seem to have blades thinner than the slot in the adjuster, or they are slippery and always finicky to keep centered in the adjuster slot.

Maybe this will help make the job a bit easier. Anyone used it and have an opinion? :blank:

IMO     Not to change the subject but dealing with slot-head screws is an uphill battle, without a bench grinder to match the screwdriver to the slot.
That does look like a nifty gadget :thumb: and if it works.............. ...

I've seen other devices, in a different style, to solve this same problem.  Never tried them, and I'd like to hear your report.

I once stripped a lock nut on this, because the in-lb torque wrench I was using had such a soft "click" that I didn't hear it.  Totally over-torqued it like a gorilla.
Fortunately I was able to rescue the set up with a thread chaser and new lock nut.

Honda made a very similar tool for the adjusters on their small motors.  Instead of a slot they had a very small square drive.  The tool was a necessity and worked very well.

I guess I don't understand the difference between the box wrench/screwdriver I use?  I'm not torquing the slotted bolt with the driver, just holding it steady as I use the nut to tighten. I'd say buy a cheap screwdriver that fits.

I do have few screwdrivers that I have ground down but they are sometimes shy when I need them.

That 6 piece set is awesome! I like it because it looks professional. If you had many different vehicles that set would surely have one "thumbdriver" to fit.

The only ones I have use the same type 10mm nut and plain slot adjusters, so that new tool will work on all of them. I also like that the screwdriver part of it is captured - that part of the kit wont get separated and misplaced. And I can hang this one tool up on the board easily too.  :thumb:
