v50 11 coil question

The coils on my daughters v 50 have no positive or negative designation on the terminals, how do you tell which is which, or does it matter? I have the manuals and there is no mention of it and the schematics only show the ignition side common and the other two routed to the control boxes left and right, but no polarity on the coil itself. Use a lead pencil,it will tell you if right or wrong.Get a sharp-long peice of lead sticking out,pull plug wire,hold out to cause a spark between wire and ground or plug.place led of pencil between wire and whatever the spark is going to.The spark will cause a small amount of carbon to blast off making the spark look differant on one side.You allways want the carbon side on the ground-plug side.You will need 2 people to test.One to run or turn over the engine while the outher one does the test.If on wrong side swap the wires on the coil.

With much skepticism I conducted this test, I expected to get lit up like a christmas tree and be the laughing stock for many but i'll be damned it worked as stated. Had one coil right and one wrong and have now marked them for future disconnects. Thank you chipmaker,We now have a happy little v 50. A bad coil and cdi box on the r.h. cylinder was all it needed, fired right up , no drama.   dave
