Looks like its gonna happen... white stone
« on: June 27, 2015, 09:42:10 AM »
after too much time being the guy that sits on the bikes, take a couple test rides, asks irrelevant questions and generally becomes a bore, I'm tired of waiting.  Timing is never right, daughter's tuition, washer breaks down, dog is sick and needs a vet, always seems to be something that drains time and money away from the 'fun' stuff, the things I love to do and make me feel alive.  And it always has, and likely always will.  Soooo I'm just gonna do it.  My wife and kids tell me, "You don't need a motorcycle".  I tell the wife, "You don't need another five dollar vente vanilla Latte, either... but you're gonna have one".  :boxing:

I've read good things about our local moto guzzi dealer, GP Motorcycles in San Diego.  They called me yesterday with news of a new 2013 white V7 stone they will be getting next week... don't know how that works when they get a 2 year old brand new bike... but once it comes in next week, I'll pick it up.  I think it will be the perfect bike for me.  And the discounted price adds to the justification for getting one.

My kids are all grown and on their own except for the youngest who still lives at home and is ready to start her third year of college... the older ones all went to college and I'm very lucky they are independent and healthy and largely happy.  But at this stage in life, about 10 or so years from retirement, I want to enjoy life a little.  I keep telling myself... as a justification... I may not be able to ride motorcycles in the near future, though I read about lots of the wild guzzi members in their 60s and even one in his 90s that still rides... realistically though, if I can get another 20 years of productive and active living I'll be happy.  And right now, I think this bike will help achieve a little of that nostalgic link to my past youth, just a taste of the freedom and happiness that we all felt in our early twenties.
Sorry to get so philosophical... seems motorcycles and guitars always carry me to that place...

Don't wait any longer, if you love to ride and Guzzi has your heart, then grab the opportunity, buy the bike and enjoy.

I'm in San Diego.  The racer is gorgeous, but I think the more upright position of the stone may be more to my liking.  I'm not ruling it out, don't want to limit myself too much.  Aesthetically and viscerally, the Griso is much more appealing, but the weight and power are too much for me... and I'm not likely to take up body building anytime soon, lol.

Go for it!   :thumb:

It sounds like you've been away from riding for a while.  You may also want to consider a weekend motorcycle safety course to reacquaint yourself with the basics of riding.

Good luck and ride safe!

If the deal is satisfactory to you, BUY IT! (or one of the used ones on this forum).
I lived in SD for 30 years and rode motorcycles the entire time (and before & after).  San Diego has some great places to ride once you get away from the freeways and there are MANY roads that are fantastic motorcycle riding roads so you can ride a different route every time.
I've owned two different, 750cc Guzzis and loved them both (presently have a V7 Classic).
Enjoy!

Came to San Diego in 1980.. the navy.  Besides one year living in St. Louis, lived the last 35 years here.  Bought my first bike from a long-gone dealer on El Cajon Blvd in 1982, a brand new 1981 suzuki gs 550.  Rode that bike all over southern California until I sold it to a buddy.  After that bought a used 1973 Sportser... piece of junk that I worked on more than I rode.  Then a BMW K100, a suzuki savage thumper, a long break without bikes, then a vespa 150 with a 190 kit, my favorite alltime bike ... rode on long day trips two up 65 miles an hour all day long... and now its been about 10 years with no bike.  I'm ready for the guzzi, though I strongly considered another Vespa, the GTS 300.

GP has a great reputation.

Well I don't know about great, OK maybe. They are all gung ho during the buying process but seem to have memory loss as to who you are when returning. Ive bought two Guzzis there in the last three years because they will really make you a good deal but never had a follow up call or even "how do you like your new bike" question when returning for parts or service. Next time I will be going to the dealer in Escondido.

That's on the list.  I currently have a surf green strat deluxe with the n3 pickups, a les paul copy called a Vintage V100 (its likely the best LP copy I've yet played), and a Alvarez - Yairi... the handbuilt japanese acoustic.  Not quite a D-28 but nearly.

Our taste for quality products run the same path.  I also have a 1979 Gibson, Les Paul.
Now, go purchase that V7.  LOL
