Keyless starting Some MG content

Does anyone here have experience or know of a product that can allow you to start the bike without having to insert the key into the ignition like many cars have these days? No, not hot wiring the thing.

With ignition keys getting bigger all the time, if you have more than one vehicle, the jumble of keys the size of small phones gets ridiculous. The key for the Norge isn't huge but it is still big. It isn't like it can't be done, some new bikes have keyless ignition systems, as long as the key is on your person you can start the bike via button or something.

mykeyport.com and http://www.digitalguarddawg.com/ looks interesting but you are still using a key to start. If you could have a single small fob that held all the transponder codes and worked like the proximity ignition keys in many new vehicles and some bikes, then it would make things a lot easier.

I almost never use the handlebar lock as it takes about 1 second for someone to break it and haul your bike off. Besides, given that there are probably 3 white Norge's ever made, good luck with the theft, insurance will get me a new one, full replacement insurance is a nice thing.

Thanks, their M-Lock looks nice and clean. The guarddawg looks a bit more complex so it will take some checking to see which will work better.

The motogadget M-Lock won't work with an immobilizer which the Norge has so that one is out. I have a call into GuardDawg to see if their system will work.

I just keep three keyrings hanging on hooks by the door?

1. Impreza & F-150 keys, house key, work key, storage unit key  (my EDC set)

2. Breva key, H&B bags key, helmet cable lock key, house, work, & storage unit keys

3. V65 key, house key, helmet cable key

I aint carrying all these fobs & shit.. it's too much

But I sure as hell am not hacking into my wiring to introduce a 3rd party system that allows my bike to start keyless... when that system probably requires yet another fob that's larker than the key itself.

sounds like a solution searching for a problem

I borrowed a friend's Kawasaki Councours with the keyless start for about a week while he was gone.  I always kept the fob in the pocket of my riding jacket (which I never ride without).  It was pretty cool.  That said, I can't imagine adding it aftermarket on a motorcycle that already has a good security system built in.

A toggle switch means anyone can toggle it. I find going into the house to retrieve keys more of a hassle. Its a personal thing, just want to do it.

I don't see the ignition switch as a sacred cow, I put on the starter interruptus fit( bypassing some part of the ignition switch wiring already), wired in a driving light and power sockets up front and messed with guzzidaig and it is all connected together somewhere.

It looks like the digital guard dawg is the top system so as long as it works with the immobilizer I'll give it a try.

Yes, if you duc tape the toggle switch to the handlebar with a big sign on it saying "on switch" anyone can toggle it.   :boozing:

The idea is to have the functionality of a keyless ignition in that when you are away from the bike no one CVS an simply flip the toggle and start it up. A toggle switch is also something you can accidentally leave on in which the thelights that remain powered with the ignition on still work and does everything else.

A toggle could work but brings iit's own set of problem s with it. From what I've  read so far, a good keyless ignition provides convenience without having to mount a toggle somewhere.  Put some kids near a bike with a toggle and they'll find it and play with it. Things happen.

I guess a fella can come up with an objection to anything at all if he tries hard enough.  And if a perp WANTS your bike, ask Greg Field what lengths he'll go to get it.  Yes, if a guy is stupid enough to visibly mount a toggle in a way that makes its function obvious he's inviting trouble.  But that level of stupidity will also have him leaving the keys in the ignition.  And yes, there's a level of incompetence that will have him leave the toggle on and drain the battery.  Again, it's the same level that leaves the key in the ignition and rotated to the 'run' position.  It's not a function of the toggle -- is a dysfunction of the owner.

I'll tell you what I tell everyone -- if you can figure out my non-keyed start sequence and drive the bike away in 90sec or less, you can have it.  So far nobody has succeeded, and most give up before the egg timer does.

Park it in the SF Bay Area and someone will figure it out in 5 seconds. :boozing:

No objection to the toggle, or should I say about as much as there is to the other idea.

It's a $3.50 solution where a $350 fix also works.

I did the toggle on a cb750 I used to ride.  It was tucked way out of the way under tank zip tied to the frame. I got sick of walking back to house for keys from rented garage.  Worked great, actually sold it that way, but the cb was a much less "sophisticated" bike to hack in to.
Do bikes get ridden away by thieves often?  Stolen bikes I know of were all carried away somehow...
