Young kids and the Norge
« on: August 07, 2015, 01:02:16 PM »
As I rode around the Northwest these past few months, I noticed that quite often, whenever I stopped at a restaurant and parked near other bikes, the little ones seemed to gravitate to my Norge as their parents watched on. I found myself offering to give the wee ones a boost to sit on it and watch as their eyes lit up and they got big smiles on their faces. Maybe it was the white horse and the Norge being white thing, just something I noticed. It didn't matter that I was parking next to some uber sports bike or American iron, the Norge seemed to catch their attention. Always good remarks from the parents too.

The next generation of motorcycle riders with the best taste in bikes.

I just retired from working in secondary education. Due to the nature of my job I worked five different middle and high schools. I have had many positive comments and questions concerning my white Norge. It seems have some appeal to that age group.

The styling of the Norge combines elegant lines with clear visual cues to its purpose. If you are a kid, you have an idea what a thing should look like. This is why we all had posters in our rooms when we were young. If it was a classic car, it was a Deusenberg Silver Special; if it was a high performance car (in the 70s), it was probably a Lamborghini Countach or a Pantera; if it was a motorcycle, it was probably a Norton Commando (late 60s/early 70s) or a racing 2-stroke (mid to late 70s). And if it was a girl, it was Farrah Fawcett, or later on Nastassja Kinski (I can't say about what the girls had in their rooms, in those days I never managed to find out!).

There is an appreciation of beauty and function in the young that is innate, and there is no doubt the Norge has much of that appeal.

I work in the school system, and one of the rewards for my elementary students on behavior plans is to have their picture taken sitting on my white Norge.  I always blow it up into a small poster and give it to them.  I've had kids work for a month towards behavior goals to be able to do this.  It works equally well with male or female students.
