Water hose question , NGC , SERIOUSLY
« on: August 14, 2015, 10:18:07 AM »
 Well , since WG seems to be capable of answering almost every question about life , liberty , and the parfait of happineffs , (hey , that's what the document says ) . What say you regarding water hoses . Purchased an expensive "never kink" hose a few years back , what a bit of false advertising . Unfortunately , the on line distributor refused return of this product , which should be marketed as "Oh , it's gonna kink , and not just in one place either" So ... any one have a recommendations for a readily available no kink hose . Sorry , stuff like this just frustrates the dickens out of me , HELP

Well here goes, Dusty. I work in the water and wastewater treatment field and we have  NEVER come across a hose that is truly "kink proof". Some of the most expensive ones do a pretty good job, but you give up flexibility. We have even purchased industrial hose,(Dayco and GoodYear) put our own ends on them and although they last a great deal longer they still will kink. Gilmour hoses sold at TrueValue are the least evil and readily available. Not cheap though.

My wife uses a Gatorhyde 1/2 hose and it works great.  It is very light weight (even full of water because it's 1/2") and very stiff so does not expand and hold pressure the way others do.  The stiffness resists kinking.  Easiest hose I've used.

(We also have a 5/8" version of the hose but it is too stiff to coil easy and is more likely to kink because its weight with water is greater.)

Like below only 1/2"

The 1/2" hose is on a swiveling reel and it is very easy to use and coil back up:
