VEGLIA ITI speedo failure/ replacement ?

Hi all
i have a 98 cali ev and the speedo goes 90 mph while bike parked in the garage lol ( trip meter works tho .)

Is there any replacement that can be used instead ?
or can the speedo be fixed at a reasonable price ?

there is one for sale on egay but i am afraid it will fail because they are all prone to fail anyway....

what do you think ?

 Seriously, is there a place to get these speedos rebuilt? I have an ITI that may or may not still work, but I am resigned to my fate...who can rebuild them? I do not want a Speedhut replacement.

I think you'll find that the consensus is the instruments are not economical to repair, so the repair houses will not touch them.

Some people have been able to repair them, themselves.

Replace with new OEM.  Replace with aftermarket.  Those are your two best choices.

Perhaps one of the balance weights has fallen off like happens to the tach. Take the gauge off and see if it rattles.

A better solution is a pair of gauges from Speedhut customized with Guzzi graphics.

This ones a GPS unit, personally I prefer a pulse input and not just because it's cheaper.

Visit the Speedhut site and play with the gauge customize feature, they will give you whatever your Guzzi desires.

Because the gauges are only 1" deep I was able to cut a chunk out of the cover

  Those look really sharp!  They are listed at 85mm, did you have to modify the mounting plate?  Assuming the ITI gauges are 80 like the Veglia.....

You have to leave out the rubber grommet the OEM is mounted in.
Also the Speedhuts come with a large nut to hold it in the dash, that doesn't work either but it's easy to figure out an alternate method, I glued on a couple of bolts.

          No, they don't claim to be waterproof but if they know it's for a motorcycle they silicone the glass sealing the front. That's another reason to have the reset button plugged in the back.

You only use the reset button on the tach once to set it's pulse rate so you don't need that.

The GPS speedos are a lot more money but you might like some of the added features.

The wiring is a little complicated they have a high Voltage inverter to make the dial fluoresce.

The speedo will accept any sort of a pulse input, I made my own pulse unit using a reed switch.


One thing that's a bit disconcerting at first, if you power them down with the motor running (turn the key Off) the needle stays put, that's because the movement is a stepper motor, it needs power to go down as well as up. Using the kill switch it's not a problem.
Overall I'm very pleased with mine.
