New to me 2007 Vintage
« on: August 28, 2015, 08:30:10 PM »
Looking forward to putting a bunch of miles on this machine.  It fits like a glove and is very similar to my Jackal.  After test driving a Road King and being timid (not my bike) but also the fact that the steering seemed too loose and was a lot more heavier I am glad I never bought a Harley.

Couple questions

I noticed starting off in first gear if I don't rev it I get that lugging sound like its going to stall, valves too tight?

Also whats the best setup without introducing too much noise?  I believe the V11 ECU, open airbox, H-pipe and punched out stock mufflers may do just right.  I found my Jackal sounded great but was a little too loud with the turnhout pipes.

Todd has a vested interest but has warned against running the V11 ecu for too long, maybe because of the pinging?

Thanks

Also still have the quota listed in the Swap section, hint, hint.  Now I will just need to clean the bike up and take better pictures.

On my 07 CalVin I had Todd flash the ecu, power commander 5 and auto tune, paired with stock air box, h-pipe and Mistral exhaust. Runs great, sounds great and it's rare I ever get any pinging on 93 octane.
I think the other ecu works great for some and I thought was a cure for the pinging. Main thing is have the bike set up correctly when stock then see how things are.

Hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine, they are a amazing machine!

If it still has low miles, it could just be nothing more than that. I have observed that over time the motor gets more willing at low rpm's.

As for sound, my preference is keeping the intake honk down and having a nice set of pipes for the sound coming out the back. The H pipe in lieu of the colostomy bag helps. I fancy Staintunes myself. Polished stainless steel, SS packing material. Unless damaged in some way continue to sound good without being obnoxious and can be polished back to like new. If you are interested, I have a set I would be willing to sell now that I have adopted a 1400 Eldo. (Not riding the EV much these days.)

22k on the clock and the factory yellow paint is still present on all the adjustments.  Does this sound odd?  Or did the dealer just add more?

I measured 2.76 degrees but when warmed up 2.96 on TPS with guzzidiag.  Don't think I want to touch throttle stop screws just yet.  I would like it closer to 2.6.

There is a process to getting the TB's balanced and TPS set properly. Something I never had the stuff for. Bill in PA tweaked my bike a couple times and did wonders. At 22K I'm guessing it could stand to have some adjustment done. I doubt any dealer would have repainted the screws.

Yeah been doing the same adjustments on my Jackal.  Its running good now just switched off the lambda sensor and it is a lot smoother and peppier.  Could be becuase of the slight imbalance.  I believe my TPS is still at 2.6 so it'll run rich for now.  Plugs looked whitish if just a little tan.

As far as the valves they were set at .005 intake and .007 exhaust which sounds about right, or close neough to the .004/.006 I usually set them too.

So that leave me to ask the question why does it "make a dieseling" sound right from a dead stop?  Clutch need adjusting?

Thanks

How do you turn off the sensor?  I have a new-to-me '08 Vintage.

Cheers!

the clutch rattles on my calvin when pulled in, but I don't know what you mean by diesling sound during take off. my bike pulls great down to less than 2000 rpm. everything is stock. yes I can make it ping, and the pipes are blue, but it runs fine otherwise. 45 mpg.

stock, they are geared stupid tall, I have lowered the gearing on mine by 7 percent. perhaps that accounts for the different launch behavior.

Geoff,  check out the guzzi diag tutorial thread on this board.  Lot of reading but should explain it.  In short you need tunerpro and guzzi diag with cables.

How did you lower the gearing, just the 7/33 drive?

An O2 Optimizer improved the low speed mixture a great deal on mine, but getting a re-flash that eliminates the Lambda Sensor is probably the best solution to fueling issues. I feel that the Vintage is one of the most practical, handsome, and comfy Guzzis ever. I'm sure you'll enjoy your '07...

130/70-17 rear tire. quite a bit lighter than the stock tire, helps suspension performance over bumps.
