Best tyres for v50 III ?
« on: September 04, 2015, 04:53:28 AM »
Hi, I'm wondering what's the opinion on tyres for a v50?

I'm not so bothered about longevity, more about feel and grip. I see a lot ware Avon road riders, thoughts?.

Thanks

We put Pirelli Sport Demons on my wife's Nevada and they are very nice. Lots of grip. They are relatively new so don't know about longevity yet.

Had Avon Roadriders on a CB400F and an 850T and those were excellent too

I currently have Avon Roadriders (DOT approved version) on my Yamaha DT100 and Pirelli Sport Demons on my Mille.  Both are excellent for feel and grip.  A complaint about the Sport Demons is the front tire isn't perfectly true, and in hard right turns, I can feel a slight wobble from that.  The wheel is true, the tire is not quite.

In the original sizes (90/90-18 f, 100/90-18 r), options are limited, with the Avon Roadriders the best option IMO.

I did install a set of Shinko 712s in 100/90-18 f and 110/90-18 r on a customer's V50 III and other than slightly heavier steering, I noticed no ill effects. The Shinkos are a bargain at $100.64 a pair shipped from American Motorcycle Tire. Ran them on my MZ Silver Star and am putting them on my Morini 350 K2 as well. Excellent feel and grip, wet or dry.

Good to know that there's something besides the Road Riders. Which work well but do have a nasty tendency follow the deeper rain grooves in roads around here. Not that we've had any rain lately…

Tha manual says Front 90/90 and Rear 100/90.

Are we saying that f100/90 and r110/90 is the modern way to go or just what's available?

Thanks

Ok, so it comes down to

1 Avon road rider, cheapest
2 Pirelli demon sport, most expensive but I've read it takes a long time for them to break in
3 Bridgestone BT45, Middle of the 3 in terms of price but they get good general reviews

Thinking....

110/90 on the rear makes it a major pain to remove the wheel as there isn't really enough clearance between the larger tire and fender. And of course I had that tire on during the time the bike had to come apart multiple times for gearbox problems.

A deflated 110/90 isn't really any larger than an inflated 100/90.

But, in my experience, they wear fast. Put a set on my MZ Silver Star (31 hp, 350 lbs.) and it was gone at 3500 miles.  I expected more for the price. Made in Korea if that matters.

In contrast, the (Korean) Shinko 712 I replaced it with still had at least 2k miles left on it after 4k miles of the same use and cost $20 less.
