Fork leg differences between t3 and g5
« on: September 06, 2015, 02:04:26 PM »
I picked up a right fork from a t3 to replace the right fork on my G5 because of a cracked caliper mount. After getting the t3 fork I realized it had more brackets on it and the fender mounts were different too. Also the G5 has a hex nut on top where the t3 had an Allen bolt. I've looked at pictures online and saw both bikes have both kind of forks. Is there a determination on which it should have or is there any internal difference. I'm going to go back and get the other fork and the fender I guess. There are also brackets below the caliper mounts both front and back but can't figure out what would mount there
Thx
Allen

here's a Vert, should be same as a G5.. looks like the extra mounts below the caliper are "extra" maybe left over from the Eldorado w/disc model and the fender mounted there?

nope, my g5 fork sleeves are different, rear strut of the fender mount runs horizontal and mounts inside of fork sleeve 9 o'clock to 3 o'clock.  yours mounts 12 to 6  wonder why there are slight differences in the same years on practically the same bike.  but, nothing was done the same back then, we all know that.  thanks guido

IIRC, the fender struts for drum v disk are different.  Perhaps the lugs are for both/either?

The G5 lower forks are the same as the SP1 as far as I understand it, and I believe the T4 has the same type too. They do have the same fender mount system, which is different than the convert and t3. The SP1 fender is different however, but the spot where it mounts to is the same as the G5. All years of the G5 from what I've seen have the horizontal mount for the rear fender brace.

As far as the difference inside, not sure. I think the springs are different, but maybe someone else can pitch in on that.

Here is a pic of mine. It's an 81 G5

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't G5s have dual discs?

Yes on two disks. Looked at my pic again, and the angle just perfectly lined up where you can't see the left side.. Go figure.

Also. The SP1 has trailing calipers, but they are the same lowers I still believe. Just flipped.
