Guzzi Riders in Texas GRIT Rally - October 2-4, 2015
« on: September 08, 2015, 10:53:32 AM »
The 32nd annual Guzzi Riders in Texas (GRIT) Rally will be Friday, Oct 2 through Sunday Oct 4, with the main event on Sunday. It will be held at the American Legion in Lindale, 18251 County Road 498
Lindale, Texas. There is no rally fee, but donations and 50/50 help cover the costs. Camping is also free unless you need water and electric hookups and that is $15/night.

There is a lot to do in the East Texas area, so you won't get bored. I have several routes mapped out for nice scenic rides. We even have a paddle boat so you can enjoy a ride around the lake! Food and drinks will be provided all weekend so you won't starve!

There will be awards and door prizes given out Sunday just after lunch. If you have something you would like to donate as a door prize, please bring it! There are some benches and picnic tables, but bring your chair if you've got one!

I don't do Facebook or texting on my phone, so if you need to talk to me, you must call! 903 316 7720. You can also email me at georganne@suddenlink.net

I hope to see y'all there!

Good friends,  good fun, good food and Guzzis.  Great venue in the East Texas pines, with fish pond, dock,  huge fire ring and covered eating area.  George Anne (Beaver) is the hostess with the mostest.  ALWAYS miles of Smiles at GRIT.  A highlight of the fall riding season.

First Rally of October - 3 to attend in total...should be fun!

Fishing is allowed, but no swimming.

If you catch a mess of fish, you can clean 'em and cook 'em on the fire!

Tex has a paddle boat you can use to explore the lake!  I have 3 adult life jackets, but no kids ones.

Very good Tom...I wasn't sure you would be able to make it!  Right now I could try to squeeze out of here on Friday afternoon...25% chance, otherwise, for sure early Saturday is good.  Let me see how the schedule goes and confirm with you.

Dave...see you up there then!

Beaver, I read on Facebook that there again would be codswallop at the event. Please confirm as codswallop and lagniappe make for a great rally.

  Dusty

Dusty,

You should never believe those rumors.  The codswallop was the best ever last year and I would NEVER have bad lagniappe.  :)  Come on down and see for yourself!  Camping is great under the trees and the lake is sooooo peaceful!  Sitting around the campfire by the lake and looking up at the sky, you just might start belting out, "The stars at night are big and bright (clap, clap, clap, clap) deep in the heart of Texas!"

Look what you've missed by not coming to the GRIT Rallies:

They greeted me with flowers!

Hot biker chicks

Show girls

Cooking Class

Elegant dinner tables complete with flowers

Test riding a 750 Stone

The cutest baby

The Youngest Rider (rode his Guzzi from Dallas; yes they start 'em young in Texas)

Nice bikes (had to hire some guard dogs to protect the bikes)

It's a nice bike, but Randy says it's just not his cup 'o tea

Watching the women work

Great food

Enjoying the entertainment

Hugs and kisses

Door prizes and awards

The coveted Golden Turnip award

The grand prize

Handing out money

Uhhhh, I think he came to the wrong rally.

You missed this place cuz now it's closed down:  Scoops and Scoots

but, you can still find the brick at the Lindale Veterans Memorial

or enjoy the day on the lake with Turnip Rides by Tex

or play a game of horse shoes

or take one of the many scenic rides and explore East Texas history

Feel the Spirits of those who died at this battle site

At the Salt Lick (you can taste it and see if this building is really made of salt!)

Go ahead, lick it!

So, Dusty, come on down to Texas and join the fun!  We'll even let you bring your own codswallop!

Hmm , considering the high quality of this event , it is a bit surprising that the Turnip is allowed on the grounds

TT or Beaver...any chance that the "Suite" overlooking the lake will be available again this year, or shall I plan on bringing my own tent and gear this time around!  Looking forward to a fun ride...we should have at least 3 maybe 4 Guzzis riding up from Houston.

No tent suite this year, but some Eagle Scouts are supposed to build a pavillion in that same spot.  I've been hearing about that project for awhile though so hopefully they'll get started on it pretty soon.  I sure did like that tent setup though.  It was nice.

No worries...will either bring the hammock or the tent...have to figure out which one at this point.  Either way...looking forward to the event!  I presume we'll have some of that famous coffee cake in the morning after a long night by the campfire!

This is a great event.  Of course, that's easy for me to say since it's only 60 miles from my house.

I will do my level best to be there.  Even if for just one day.

When the late Dan Standlee and I wanted to get Guzzi organized in Texas 32 years ago we couldn't decide on calling it GOAT (Guzzi Owners Association Texas) or Dan, the sane person suggested GRIT (Guzzi Riders in Texas).

And the rally has begun!

New Hampshire Rep Randy Tefft rolled in today.  Tex took him to visit The Waldo Way Dairy Farm just north of here where they bought brownies and yogurt.  They were wanting some venison sausage also, but there wasn't any.      The Farm has Guernsey Cows and they sell raw, unpasteurized milk.  They also sell Jersey milk from another farm.  They make breads too.  Go check 'em out!

There's lots of places to see and things to do around here and the roads through the rolling hills of East Texas are great!  You can go watch the Motocross Races in Swan, just a few miles south of Lindale or take a scenic ride.  The Frank Wedge Intercontinental Bridge which is on a couple of the scenic routes, washed out during the spring flooding, but it's easily bypassed on another road.

Hope to see you here.  We'll keep the lights on for ya!
