St. Louis Museum
« on: September 12, 2015, 10:17:07 PM »
Just spent the weekend in the St. Louis, MO region.  One day we stopped in to visit the "Moto Museum".  Fine collection of very old bikes including three Guzzi singles.  Free entry.  Nice bar and upscale hotel adjacent.  Worth the visit.  Doesn't look like much from the outside.  Have to enter through the Triump bar.  Corner of Olive and Theresa.  Haven't heard of it discussed here previously.

Pat,  you might want to visit Michael Kiernan's Motorcycles sometime.  He's at the corner of Chouteu and Grand and is an interesting guy.  I was in there a few months back and he had a 1937 Guzzi as I remember.

Yes, I visited Kiernan's motorcycles and the Moto Museum last year.  There's a third museum to go to as well, the Mungenast Museum at 5625 Gravois St, St Louis  http://mungenastclassicmuseum.com/category/motorcycles/

The Mungenast is better than the website suggests.

If you visit Kiernan's, tell "Dr Sparkle" that I couldn't his email address to work.  (really)

The Hotel St. Ignacio was one of the stops on the So Cal Norton club's Route 66 ride back in '12. Had a great time there. the museum was very accommodating for us and our bikes. They let us park inside the place.

Been to Triumph Grill and the attached museum.  Definitely worth the stop when in STL.

Also been to Michael's Motorcycles.  Another 'worth the stop' place in STL:

I'll second Mungenast Museum as being fantastic.   If you like old motorcycles, by all means make the trip.  Plus there is a lot of other cool stuff to see and do in St. Louis while there.    Will figure out a reason we need to go to St. Louis and see the other places also.....

And if you go to North St. Louis, Donelson Cycles has a little collection of motorcycles on display as well.  Some old flat-trackers, a road racer or two, then just an eclectic mix of everything from scooters to dirtbikes.

I wore a camera out on the '49 Astore getting photo's for mine.  I had a bunch of pictures posted back in 2010 but the webshots.com went out of business and the links went bad!

Donelson Cycles is NOT in north STL. In fact it's not even in STL. It's NW of the city right on the line between Breckenridge Hills and St. Ann. Carl used to be a Guzzi dealer for many years.

Trust me, you do NOT want to go anywhere near north STL. Not any time.

I don't think most people get the nuanced micro-jurisdictions of the metro area.  And North STL isn't all bad.  Just mind your business and no one else's.
That said, yes, there are places I avoid.

Pat, next time you come to STL, ping me and we can organize something.

We spent just over a day in St. Louis after delivering my V11S to a really good guy in Memphis. Memphis was really cool, and the wife and I will be going back again.

We stopped at City Museum in STL, and that was quite the experience. Go there! http://www.citymuseum.org
