Hepco Becker Key Help???
« on: September 16, 2015, 04:09:47 PM »
I lost the keys to one of my HB boxes.  When I went online to find a way to get a copy or a blank, all the extra keys for sale have 3 digit numbers on them.  I pulled my tumbler and no numbers there.  I took the tumbler to a locksmith who kept it for a week only to eventually tell me he couldn't figure out what key to use or how to create a copy.  When I called Amotostuff, they said there was no option except to order 3 new tumblers.  Ouch.  Any other advice on this?

There's a locksmith here in Dayton who could do it if anybody can. Al's Lock & Key Shop 937-278-8081 which is in the local Triumph Yamaha dealer, Joe's Cycle shop. Probably more expensive than a lock set though.

It would be easiest to just buy three new cylinders.  They'll all come with keys, then you'll have two spares.
Cylinders are $15.   Keys are $10 alone.

You could, potentially buy a key, then get your cylinders re-keyed to match that new key, but, the labor on that will likely cost you enough that it isn't worth it.

Call a lock smith to see what the charge would be for that service.

Call moto machines I think they can help.  Sorry been a while but I think you ignore the first number.  They handle a bunch of hb stuff.

Brian, I have a old school lock smith here in town that can do what others can't and he's cheap. Look up chesters lock shop, palestine IL. Tell him I sent Ya and he'll treat you very well.

I'll also agree Moto Machines would be a great place to check!

I've had good luck with Moto Machines as well.  I was able to purchase a replacement latch and key for $36.

If I understand correctly, the poster lost the key and the key number.  So he can't make a copy from a blank nor order another key.

If that is true, hopefully the locksmith will figure it out.  There is one other possibility: You can buy keys + lock barrels for $16.  That would work out to $64 for 4 barrels and 4 keys.

Try another locksmith.
I purchased some 40L HB bags that didn't have keys.  ( killer deal-didn't matter)
I went to an older lock smith, he kept it for a couple of days and made new keys that work just fine.

Try another locksmith.....

I think Fiat uses that same key blank.  Don't know if that helps any or not.

Much thanks, guys.  Maybe I'll first try another locksmith here in town.  Maybe take him the HB keys I have to a different box (that don't fit this older one) and see if that helps.
