Decisions Decisions
« on: September 18, 2015, 01:33:35 AM »
So I have been given permission by domestic management to get another bike (I think she feels a bit guilty about doing loads of Women's Institute courses)

Now on the one hand I love the look of my 95 Cali Carby

On the other hand forever needing to "fettle" it to keep it just so is getting a bit wearing - may be age is creeping up on me and I'd rather be riding than fixing.

I'm leaning towards a Norge

So my dilemma is do I get a Norge and put the Cali up on the bench and sort it out properly

OR

Do I chop the Cali in and get a newer Norge

Two Guzzis is the minimum, as recommended by a unbiased panel of experts.
Variation is good for you, something can happen to one of them, you may want to lend someone a bike for some reason.
You'll likely enjoy having access to bikes with different characters, so getting an 8V Norge would be a good idea.
Then later, a carbureted Tonti, and then a loopframe.

I understand that a biased panel of experts arrived at the same recommendation.  Now I don't know who to believe.

Variation is nice and also as a long-time Italian bike owner, I would always advise having a 'spare'...

As for the age thing, I find as I get older I'm doing more fettling and less riding although that maybe because my bikes are getting older too?   :undecided:

Sometimes a biased panel may be right.
Then it's not belief, it's knowledge.

Everyone has to weight what they think they want and need, but here is my logic.

I am a motorcyclist, I love riding, tinkering, looking at, and talking motorcycles.  I ride a motorcycle everywhere unless there is a reason I have to take my truck.  I have several bikes in the garage and each one offers something different from the others, however, one needs to be very reliable, comfortable, capable of commute and travel, and low maintenance.  You see, I like to wrench on bikes when I want to wrench on bikes, not have to wrench on them under time constraints so I can get to work or be somewhere.  I like the fact that I have an appliance or two and then some bikes that are more character filled alternatives to ride when I feel the need.
