How to replace turn signal stalks on 2004 California
« on: October 01, 2015, 06:16:45 PM »
Just got back from a trip from Texas to Colorado on my 2004 California EV..   3 out of the 4 rubber turn signal stalks broke off and I had to tape them in place..   I have been trying to remove them to put on new ones; but when I turn the allen head screw that mounts the signal to the taillight housing they just "spin"...   Am I going to have to remove the taillight lens to get to a nut on the inside; or am I going to have to remove the rear wheel to remove the taillight housing to get to a nut on the inside?

I got the broken stalk off the headlight housing; but am afraid to pull to hard on the wire connecting it... Do I need to remove the headlight from the housing to disconnect the wire inside the headlight bucket?   Thanks...

Maybe the backing nuts are in the oil pan with the oil filter....:)

Hi, Robert

It's a two-step process:

1)  toss the old stuff
2)  find something you like that's entirely different on account of the ev stuff is crap.

Backing nut in the tail light housing. Easiest done with a 1/4"
PITA with spanners - I used a small 1/4" ratchet an appropriate sized socket - 10mm I think.

Like you guessed (for the rears) simply remove the tail light assembly, it's not that hard. I would have one of those telescoping magnets handy in case you drop the nut.

Thanks for the information..  Once I got inside the tail light I found it to be exactly as you said..  Not to bad a job once you take the tail light out..
