Any chance Givi luggage 99 Bassa 1100?
« on: October 04, 2015, 08:50:14 AM »
I already own three bags by Givi and was wondering if anyone has used Givi on a 99 Bassa. Givi application guide doesn't go back that far, or it was never offered. Don't care about top case, but I'd like to be able to use the side cases. Thanks in advance, Dean

I think if you get the Monokey universal mounts you can make them fit. Givi luggage came stock on a lot of models from 90- 95. It would be the same frame as the Cali models using the E model luggage.

I had a little fabricating work done and put a set of monokey bags on a 83 LMlll. Worked out nicely.

IIRC, '02 and up EV
s started using the same rear fender design as the Bassa used prior to that. Although I do not know for sure, you could probably include that for reference in your search. So, it Givi shows a listing for '02 and up EV, you might be able to find the mounts you desire.

Hopefully, someone will come along and confirm or deny my thoughts on fitment.

the 98 EV and 2001 EV use similar but different mounts when using HB bags. some 99's were re-dated 98 models if I remember right.
Givi has a universal mounting plate for about $43. for the E serries that I used over the HB mounts. if you don't have any mounts you could make some using them.

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think there were Givi racks made for the Bassas. The OEM bags were leather. Also, the Jackal/early EV frames probably won't fit either as the rear fenders are mounted differently.

I welded up a set of frames using the Givi pins and pyramids.

I have an accessory backrest on my Jackal and put EV Givi racks on with a fabricated extender to the foot peg mount. Works great. I bet Harpers or MI can set you up.

The 98 EV did have specific side case brackets for Givi luggage.  Probably not sold any longer.  If you find a set, you will likely find that your frame has welded receivers for the bolts.  DO NOT EVER put a bolt into those welded lugs without first putting a tap tool.  The factory task left all sorts of slag contaminating the receiver threads.  You will just tear up the bolts.  Recut the threads first and then you'll be fine.  We have Givi 36L side bags on both of our 98 EVs.

The rear fender, up to and including '01 was different than the Bassa and subsequent EV models from '02 up. Brackets for a '98,'99, or '01 EV will certainly not work. Brackets for an EV '02 up MIGHT work.

Thank you all for the comments. I'll look for the welded receivers mentioned, and can compare to the Givi universal mount referenced as well. Sounds like some custom fabrication at a minimum, and I have access to people at work who weld far better than I. I've been investing in metal working tools, so sounds like the perfect project to justify the tools used so little to the wife. Thanks again, Dean

Problem is that the Bassa,  Sport Special and maybe Aluminum/Titanium did not come with the backrest that the EV used to attach the side brackets to. Guess you may be able to add the EV backrest.
