Strange noise coming from my Stelvio NTX transmission...
« on: October 11, 2015, 01:12:41 PM »
Coming home from Oklahoma today, I notice a strange noise coming from the area of my transmission.  I'll attach a video/sound clip for you to listen to.  Notice the strange sound when I rev up and then let off of acceleration.  Sounds like a bearing to me maybe?

My V7 was making a weird nose when the revs were coming down.  I initially thought "transmissin".

It tuurned out to be the header vibrating against the sidestand bolt.

I'd check for something like that.  Your luggage racks or exhaust vibrating against something.

Ooh..I hope I get that lucky.  I'll check on that when it cools down a bit.  Thanks Mike.

Strange.  I let it cool down and now it's not doing it.  Too tired to ride again to heat it up and see if it does it again.  Will have to wait til next time I guess.

Sounds like a resonant vibration of some sort, one that only happens at a certain rpm, or within a very narrow band.

As per Rockers suggestion, probably something loose.
The fact it only does it when warm I think supports this theory.

Check sump-guard, exhaust parts (clamps, heatshield, silencer mounts etc), stands (and their springs).
Oil tubes, seat screws (the big thumb-wheels), Aux lights, screen mounts etc, etc.
Basically anything that could come loose.

Get someone to 'blip' the throttle while you crawl around it/lie underneath, you'll probably see what's doing it.
Doc out . . .

Did it happen w/clutch out & in? Not that it could be a clutch, they don't go bad on the 8V.
