Corbin seat for v7 anyone?
« on: October 14, 2015, 04:47:19 PM »
I've taken a few longer trips recently and the stock seat is killing me.  I've been thinking of an airhawk cushion but I just noticed that Corbin is making a seat for the v7.  My concern is making the height any lower on my '13 v7 Special as its a bit tight already...has anyone bought a Corbin for their v7?  If so, any opinions on comfort and height?

Thanks.

There's a comparison new/old seat pic on the website page (number  4 in the sequence)
http://corbin.com/motoguzzi/mgv7sgl.shtml
If you click on it then it opens a sub window that allows you to slide the comparison left & right (just do it, you'll see what I mean).
Judging by this, the seat height is the same (but the pillion seat is higher).

Although the page says it's designed for 13-15 - 2016 uses the same seat, doesn't it?

Hmm, I could consider that.

Doesn't look bad, but doesn't look as nice as the cafe seat or some of the other seats I've seen.

Looks very nice!  I had a Gunfighter and Lady on my R75/5 and it was comfortable.  Maybe they'll make a solo Gunfighter also?

Funny.  I emailed Corbin awhile back, asking about a seat for the V7.  Told them there would be a good market for it, since V7 is 50% of Guzzi sales.

I never heard back from them.

And, now a seat shows up on thier website!

The Gunfighter & Lady looks like exactly what I need for some 2-up time on the V7 Special !!!   :thumb:

Gerry

That cafe one is also Corbin. I just hadn't bothered looking at anything but the OP's first link.

Since I don't use my V7 for 2-up (and if I ever do it will be with one of the small kids and the stock seat will be fine for limited distance) that cafe seat would be perfect for me.

And the price is better to, win-win.

I ordered one of the Cafe seats last night for the 2016 Racer.  I will post up a ride report etc.  when i get it.  I was pretty impressed with Corbin's slection of colors..When you order you can select four options, the saddle color and material, side panels, welting, and back center section.
The only material they charge extra for is the Stingray leather.

This is the Corbin V7 page.  It shows both versions of the Gunfighter:

AWESOME! Can't wait to hear.

What did you chose for the back center section?

I'm thinking I'd go all black, with white welts and MAYBE even a white back center (otherwise just keep it all black).

I wonder if they'll leave that ugly Corbin logo off too?

As I don't ride two up, the seat is also interesting to me.

I know I'm going overboard, but it would be nice if the Corbin site would approximate the look of the seat when you choose different materials. Yeah, it would take some programming, but it's not that bad. Lots of companies show you how your car, etc., will look as you select different colors, interiors, wheels, etc.  (I suppose I could just get a better imagination. Not sure where to start looking.)

They do have it, but not for every seat. In the "Order" tab, click on Design It. It's interactive and you can customize all sections of the seat by clicking on them. It's not available on the V7, but you could try a similar saddle like the Bonneville. It's pretty cool, actually.

Thanks. Hadn't searched for other seats. Could at least get an idea of what some of the materials would look like side-by-side.

Bump... looking for an update from anyone using either version of this Corbin Gunfighter.  Full reviews with your impressions would be great.  Of course this saddle came out just a bunch of weeks after I had my stock seat rebuilt locally.  I love mine except a more defined cafe hump behind my rump would be preferred.  The saddle width of the Corbin is the same 13" as my rebuild, which is at least 4" wider than stock.  I am tempted by that solo Gunfighter seat.

Did the Corbin create a higher or lower seating height than stock?  I hope not lower.  29" inseam and I can still flat-foot the ground easily, stock and the rebuild.

The Corbin seat on my Racer is taller than stock.  Mostly because the sides of it are wider.  When you are stopped on the bike, the side welts dig into the inside of your thighs.  So you wind up standing up a bit taller.  That being said, it is the best seat I have ever had on any of my bikes.  I get set for a long ride, go for two to three hours, and I am comfortable.  Hate to get off the bike, because I want to keep going.
I am very pleased with it.  Pictures to follow.

I had them put baseball jacket leather on the seat, asphalt vinyl on the sides, red westing, and gray on the back.

Click here to see a custom seat I made for my V7.  This is a great long distance seat.  Here's what I did:
stock seat is taken apart, a layer of our waffle gel is laid down, and then different foams are shaped and glued in.  Finally a top is made-either leather, vinyl, or Alcantra (the breathable  material you see on the outside edge of the seat) and a logo of some kind (just for kicks!).

To gain a bit of legroom the front portion of the seat was raised to the level of the passenger section.  This lets me move a bit fore and aft to vary the pressure points-which is key to long distance comfort.

I'm making two Norge seats right now-one for me and one for another rider and then need to make another V7 for a customer in California.

For those getting the Corbin you may want one of my seat covers as the Corbin seats will stay wet after rain riding for quite a while-this is what my Corbin owner/customers pass along to me.  B-150 size will fit the V7 if you need one.

Thanks Kev.  It looks and fits so much better than stock.  And the brown front section looks much better in person than in the photo.  Espresso brown was the color name of the vinyl, I think.  Then he used a cream colored thread on all the stitching and that little touch was awesome.

I've had a couple of Corbin seats
The one on my BMW R80 is very good and was made to my specs; lower than stock and narrow in the front
The seat for my 1979 T140 was not so good.  Corbin built it with a "scooped out" section for the buttocks that forced an upright riding position. I sold the Triumph seat and the guy who bought it sold it too.
They can make a good flat seat you just need to tell them

Steve.

Hi, have you decided to buy a Corbin seat and if so, are you thinking of selling your seat? I am trying to decide on which Corbin to buy. I will likely be riding solo 90% of the time so I may pick up the gunfighter too and buy a stock two seater for when the mood strikes the missus. That being said, if your seat is for sell, I may be interested.

I just bought a leftover 2014 Moto Guzzi V7 Racer and though I love the suede seat, OEM seats aren't the most comfortable for long distance riding. Anyone else find any other options for the V7? Finally, one last question, Corbin doesn't seem to list the V7 Racer as an option for their gunfighter!? I know that the OEM seats are interchangeable on all V7's. Does anyone have any experience either way with Corbin seats on the V7R?

I need an all day kind of seat so any advice, suggestions, etc. would be great. Have a good day.

I look forward to hearing about this. In the 1980's I had GREAT experiences with Corbin but in the 1990's I had an AWFUL experience with them and haven't liked any of their seats I have tried since then (on others' bikes, I have not bought again).
The accessory solo seat for the Racer was available for an unbelievably low price from Guzzi for a little while, so I used one on my 1100S project, but it is not a distance comfort seat. The Guzzi solo saddles that are currently available are listing around $200, which is not bad but may not be any more comfortable than the one I have.
I can recommend Sargent motorcycle seats if you want something made to order. I have ridden on several of their custom seats and plan to call them the next time I need a seat. They do all the custom colors and details, even matched the seams to the paint lines on my brother's SPNT.
Trying out the motorcycle life from the other side of the counter.

Just to throw in a few more data points:

2009 Stelvio - custom seat by BMS.  Outstanding, could not have been happier.  Got measured and talked to at a Guzzi rally.

2012 V7 Racer - loved the look of the stock racer seat but I needed more room for travel.  Local dealer had a take off stock seat from a Classic.  Perfectly happy with it - 400 mile days were no problem.

2014 Triumph 800XC - hated the stock seat, same downsloping into-the-tank shape of the Stelvio.  Bought the Corbin, very happy.  600 mile days.

Your mileage will vary...

Hi, thanks for the advice/suggestions. I think I have been going about it the wrong way. I have been looking for a custom two up seat that suits the bike. However, the fact is my wife would be riding with me for less than 5% of the time realistically. So I may just buy a stock two seater as you suggested for said short stints in and around the country side with the missus.

As for myself, I think I will go with the Corbin gunslinger solo seat. It suits the bike beautifully and inevitably is the most affordable choice. The stock suede seat that comes on the Racer will be kept, hung on the wall or something. It's art after all. Having owned a Corbin seat in the past, I was very happy with mine so I cannot see why it wouldn't be the same again. Either way, I'll write up a review of it after a thousand miles or so.

Again, thanks!
