2010 V7 cafe classic rims rusted while sitting in my shop...

Are these rims worth the trouble of stripping and powder coating? 

What are my other options?

Such a beautiful bike.  My heart sank when I saw the rust.  The bike now sits on a shop table so I can hit the wheels with polish to keep them from rusting through. 

I also now have fans moving the air in the shop 24/7.  Sucks living in the humid southeast if you have anything chrome.

I live in the North East which is a little better, but I have some rust of my rims ( 2009 V7). Have been trying to keep the rust at bay with chrome wax.  So far it's worked ok aside from a few tiny bubbles.

You could try one of those compounds that attack rust, like Evaporust, and then some steel wool and polish if you want to keep the chrome rims.

Rims on the late model V7s are aluminum.  And lighter.

If I had the steel rims, I'd either get a newer set of the aluminum spoked rims from a Special or Racer.  Or, the cast aluminum from the Stone.

Unfortunately, I caught it too late and have some spots that are now black from treating the wheels that are a few millimeters in diameter. 

I wonder if I can buy new rims and lace the current hub and spokes onto them.

Does anyone know if the newer rims will lace up with my current hub and spokes?  It would be about 1/2 the cost of replacing the wheels.

I wipe them down with wd40 and coat with wax

Does your humidity run 90 percent most every day?  I now have fans blowing 24/7 to keep the condensation from settling on everything metal in my shop.  Sometimes I wish I could move to a more arid climate.
