Just a pic of my LeMans IV
« on: October 23, 2015, 03:24:23 PM »
Here's some Guzzi content.  Bought "new" in '87 with <3,000 miles on it.  A few period mods, thanks to Manfred Hecht include solid rocker spacers, CC'd chambers, 3-angle seat cut, SS valves, bronze guides, 390 camshaft, lightened flywheel.  Other tweaks are Dyna III & coils, Accel wires, K&Ns, Ed Millich's jetting, Rennsport guards, FAC fork dampers, Progressive fork springs, gaiters, Corbin seat (not pictured), Bub headers & Emgo Dunstall replica megaphones, Ignition switch, lo and hi beam relays, bar-end mirrors.  Super running old gal.

Very nice!    I hope that you've reconsidered your thoughts about selling it.

I never used to like the IV, but I'm starting to come around. That looks like a very nice example.

nice pictures Tobit  :thumb:.
The Le Mans IV is beautiful in its ugliness, and because of that IMHO the most beautiful bike ever made.
Those triangular euro blinkers rock!! I would advise you to glue additional clamps on them so they dont fall off so easily (sorry no pc available just now).

I own a 92 Daytona which was my dreambike for years and bought a Le Mans in 1000 in SE colours just for fun.
I'm starting to like my Le Mans more and more compared to my Daytona, because its more comfortable on longer rides and it is more rewarding to drive because I do all maintenance myself  :Beating_A_Dead_Hors e_by_liviu :thumb:.

What tires do you run on your Le Mans?
(not trying to start a tire-topic )

Yeah, I like it. Classic 80s Italian sport bike styling.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder of course.  While the LeMans III is still the epitome of sport motorcycle aesthetics in my eyes, the styling of the Duc 900SD and '80 Honda 750F just did me in during the early '80s.  I had an '84 GPz750 before jumping to Moto Guzzi with my LeMans.  The IV pressed the same buttons as the Duc and Honda, which helped but I was actually looking for an LMIII.  Having subsequently ridden a LeMans III for an afternoon I made the right choice.

Now, if someone would just produce a Duc style 1/2 fairing with the LeMans III / IV lower wings grafted on....

About the batwing lenses, having had one blow off on the highway back when they were more readily available I took measures to keep these.  The lens plastic is VERY brittle and over-tightening the mounting screw guarantees the that the molded threads will crack and the lens will blow off.  It's a bodge, but I super glued mine on about 20 years ago!  And no, I haven't had a lamp burn out in all that time and I use the signals constantly.

Regarding tires, I started with Metzelers in the '80s.  K33 Laser up front and ME-33 on the rear.  The laser was fine but the ME33 lasted about 3,000 miles before squaring off and making handling weird.  Then I moved to Michelin Macadams in the 90s and they're a great tire.  A bitch to get seated on the rims compared to the Metzelers but very long wearing and predictable.  Pressures are about 32 front, 38 - 42 rear depending on load and situation.

Thanks.
