V7 GPS Connector

I have searched the site and can not find an answer to this question:

1. Found the green GPS connector attached to a wire harness on the clutch side of the bike behind the headlamp, no need to remove tank to get to it.

2. It looks like the BMW type GPS can-Bus GPS connector.  I have ordered an adapter plug and will test it out in a coup,e of days after I receive the same.

3. Assuming that the plug and connector fit properly, when I splice the connector on to the Garmin wire harness should I leave the fuse on ? With a can-bus system the fuse is not necessary. 

Thoughts on what has worked for others ?

Can Bus is a digital communication bus, nothing like your GPS requires.

The GPS normally has a 5 Volt power supply built into the cigarette lighter adapter, you have to have that or the unit will burn out. I broke apart the plug on mine and just have the 5Volt adapter card wired in the headlight bucket

If it's item (11) that's regular 12 VDC, just were your 12V adapter to that.

Those green connectors are TomTom connectors.  They don't fit much else, and they provide 12V to the Tomtom with no step down.  If you are going to connect it to a non-Tomtom GPS, you'll need to step it down from 12v to 5V. 

I made an adaptor cable by buying the matching Tomtom connector (it's also used in some cars, like a few Mercedes), and then slicing that Tomtom plug into a Garmin lead.  Effectively I made a connector cable that has the Tomtom plug at one end, and the miniUSB connector at the other, with the voltage stepdown in the middle. Only thing to watch for is the polarity.

Of course, you can always just remove the existing Tomtom connector and wire the Garmin bits to it directly, but I wanted a piece I could move from bike to bike, since several Guzzi models use the same Tomtom connector.
