Headlight ear fitment, SP to 850-T...?
« on: November 20, 2015, 06:20:37 PM »

My Buddy's 850-T is in need of headlight ears.

At some time in the past the T had been over on the left side and the ears and headlight took the brunt of the hit.

We straightened the bits as best we could and had reassembled with the damaged ones a bit back, kind of straightened them but they are cracked and the right side of the headlight actually broke, pulled the backing nut right through it.

So, we have a new headlight purchased from a Wild Guzzi member and we really should fit new, replacement ears to go back together.

I found a great set of SP headlight ears but I do not know if they are exactly the right length and rise to fit the T.

Anyone here happen to know...?

Thanks,
Rob

IIRC 850T ears put the headlight out 3/4 inch or so forward than SP ears.  The SP headlight bucket is not quite as deep as 850T headlight as well, hence the greater distance needed to the steering head.

When I put an SP fairing on my T the headlight protruded from the fairing.  My SP headlight was recessed a bit into the fairing.

Yup, that is what I was curious about, the distance difference could be an issue.  Here's why.  If it were just a a headlight bracket replacement it would not be a big ta-do however, the windscreen brackets bolt to the headlight mouinting points as well and I did not want to do any reengineering to bolt that back up...

Thanks Kip.

Yeah, I have talked Frank into new ears which was not difficult to do...  better all around and new rubbers to boot.

Thanks,
Rob
