Vintage Tail Light Upgrade
« on: November 22, 2015, 08:45:30 AM »
Ok boys.  I have another little upgrade that I've been running for a while.

I found an LED light board that fits nicely into the original NFalcone and other vintage Italian tail light housings. This was something I picked up from my Harley-Davidson parts snooping at Daytona Bike Week.

You can adapt a Custom Dymanics light board for the Yamaha 950 to fit inside the Italian tail lamp.  It provides much-needed brake and running light illumination to the rear of these bikes. ( I also have LED bulbs in my period-correct turn signals that I have converted to serve as running lights as well as turn signals.)

You can improvise several ways of attaching the board inside the housing. The best way I found was not rigid mounting but using three custom-bent 90 degree pieces of aluminum flat stock with double-sided sticky tape to attach to the housing inside walls.

A small LED directional pod lamp for license plate illumination can also be obtained from Custom Dynamics (and others) to wire-in the board pigtail and sticky attach to the back side of the main LED board.

Item:  GEN-YAM950-1157

Price: $119.95 ea

For the tag light, use a 3 LED white Pod Light-

Alternatively don't touch the light enclosure at all and replace the reflector with one of these. Very cheap, very easy. Will also be on usa amazon, eBay etc. I got these for classic cars fitted one to my V7. 2 in the pack.

Problem with all these LED lights is the brake light. As tail lights they may be superior. That's why I say don't change original unless have serious problem with lack of amps replace the reflector with an led reflector that looks identical to the original reflector.

The Custom Dynamics boards have a very robust stop lamp intensity.  There's a big difference between the running light and the brake light. Works great.
