MRS decided that with in laws coming for Thanksgiving, the few areas of wall to wall carpet should be cleaned.

Rented a carpet cleaner but was a little irritated by all the patterns left in the carpet by the cleaner. This was made worse by small areas where you have to change directions a lot. So, rather than looking like a mowed lawn or baseball field, looked like a rodent on LSD.

Solution, used a clean push broom to lightly fluff the carpet as I backed out of the room so the lines disappear. Took less than a minute and worked great.

I've seen our carpet guy do that....he uses rubber rake-broom thing.

Works well.

Way Back Machine to the early 70's. My parents installed shag carpet and used a plastic rake on it. After a few years, regular carpet took over.

LOL, Mom wanted shag carpet for their new home. Fortunately one of the model homes looked at had shag. One look at the foot prints and she changed her mind :)

I have to admit that I've gone around and 'fixed' the vacuum cleaner marks on a rug before as well.

The big box home supply stores sell them. Beware once your wife sees how nice they fluff the carpet you will be on the hook to do it for every visitor!

I keep the varmints out (relatives) with the threat of bringing out my accordion so no need to have a pretty carpet and the ones who come anyway are many more cogs off than me and don't care what the carpet looks like. Good tip though.

About half my house has hardwood/orientals, other half has slate. Two high-wear, kid-friendly rooms have w2w carpet.

Don't have a lot of experience with w2w carpet. But if visiting kids are going to spill something, wrestle, run their wheeled toys around, etc.--w2w is my friend--and essentially disposable if need be.

(W2w let's me be friendlier. I can say, "Oh, isn't that cute." to parents where I'd punt the kid out a window if they did that in the rest of the house.)

Haven't seen the rakes, but they make sense and probably work better than my spontaneous work around. (Although, I did like the "free" and "just out in the garage" qualities of my idea.) But, clearly, it wasn't as novel an idea as I thought. (Just novel to me.

)

The rug rake is pretty specific to shag rug. I imagine your broom idea worked much better for your application.

Speaking of schnauzers. We just rescued a one year old pup that was standing the road that really looks like one. Still has the tail and ears. Do they want to chew on everything they find. It's having a great time playing with Angus the Black Lab we have.

Sounds like the one my family had. It would always go after the biggest dog it could find (protecting my mother it thought). She had a lot of vet bills stitching the little dynamo up.
