Being a minimalist by nature , the traditional Thanksgiving variety fest is a bit overwhelming . Give me a plate with dressing , a smattering of mashed potatoes or yams , and a couple of deviled eggs , followed by a piece of pie and I am a happy camper . Then later on , a plate of simple nachos , and maybe a nice ravioli . Oh , and some greens to munch on during the lulls . Anyone else happy with a simple nontraditional Thanksgiving ? Dusty
I don't want to make you all feel guilty, but maintaining my 1960s racing weight of sub-140# does not come without effort.Villa Glorioso tomorrow will be resplendent with the enticing odors of Trader Joe's organic, whole wheat pasta, Ragu chunky mushroom sauce with a pound of diced mixed vegetables mixed in. A few baked yams on the side will add to the gastronomic intrigue..Libation will be limited to a few oz of Franzia "Chillable Red" box wine. Gourmet cook bpreynolds of this forum probably will not be amused, but I'll save a bowl for him should the temptation to sample my wares prove irresistible. Bon appetit.Ralph
I'l have a few pieces of lightly sauteed tofu on a bed of roasted turnip greens. For dessert it will be some pumpkin pie spice put on an ice cube. Man, it is a hard job keeping a svelte figure.Tex
I don't want to make you all feel guilty, but maintaining my 1960s racing weight of sub-140# does not come without effort.I have not been sub #140 lbs since grade school. Even when I was riding bicycles between 100 and 200 miles a week I weighed 205. I would ride with a group of guys in the Potomac Peddlers they called the Clydesdale's.
This year they have shrunk the portions by at least 25% .....arrgh! Thanks for nothing!
Go back to bed Ken , obviously you are dreaming Dusty
The hell you say, Dusty. Ken's got it right! A man after my own heart.Ralph
Ralph , have you ever met Ken and watched him eat ? At JN Smyth's memorial service the nice ladies at the church who provided a wonderful meal almost asked Ken to leave after he asked to take home the leftovers Dusty
C'mon Dusty, Tell the truth that I was munching on some acai seeds while y'all were bellied up to the buffet. Tex
I forgot my camera so I couldn't take pictures of Tex and his "lite lunch", (my daughter took this one) but, do you see any gravy stains or BBQ sauce or blackberry cobbler or pumpkin pie stains on his nice shirt? No you don't. Well, then, don't question what he tells you. Look at that sweet, innocent face; you don't think he'd be telling you any sea stories, do you? It's hard to keep that svelte figure, but somehow he manages. Beaver
