RAIN !
« on: November 27, 2015, 11:54:40 AM »
68 inches so far this year in Muskogee , and the forecast is for an additional 4 inches by Sunday evening . Now , we average 40 inches or so , but we seem to be on our way to 80 inches for the year, and there are locations close by that will already record 80 inches total by the time this batch passes through . For those of you in the path of this monsoon , stay safe .

1" of rain is 8" of snow.  Be glad you're in the south!

For all the talk of rain in Seattle, a normal year is 36 inches. Today is clear and Sunny, but chilly. No rain til Monday.

Bill , there is a spot on the Talimena drive just East from where the Okie is held that averages something like 70 inches a year , even Tulsa averages 38 inches or so . The difference is that it drizzles in the PNW what , maybe 200 days a year , our rain often comes at the rate of an inch an hour . The Dustbowl was a long way from Eastern OK

There are microclimates everywhere. We have one town on the Olympic Peninsula-Forks-that can get 200 inches a year. Another town on the Olympic Peninsula-Sequim-that gets avout 10 inches a year.
I miss the big thundrstorms in my part of Arkansas.

I am sick, sick, sick of the rain.  But trying to be constructive.   Spent a couple of hours sealing the zippers and seams of my Aerostich with Seam Grip.

Freezing rain over here in the middle part of OK.  Starting to see the power flicker out occasionally, tree branches breaking off everywhere...got the fireplace going and a good book...it's a nice evening to be snug at home.  I could always make my way out to the garage and detail the bike...lol

Beautiful day. Only had a chance to ride early. Walking the dog showed ice on the street where there were shadows from the trees. Passed.

9" a year is average rain for San Diego County.  One of our only advantages in SoCal.

I'll never forget my first time in OK City.   It rained so hard you could see the water bouncing up off the street another 6 feet in the opposite direction.  When I commented a local said "oh yea, like a cow pissing on a flat rock".

That is actually the short version . The long version goes like this ," like a cow standing on the back of a truck pissing on a flat rock"  Where were you in OK Cam ?

When I worked for another agency, we did alot of training in OK City.  Been back there a couple times with my current employer as well.  It's been about 10 years though.  Bought my first pair of cowboy boots out there.  How the HELL do you guys wear them every day!

Okies don't wear cowboy boots because they don't wish to be mistaken for truck drivers.

It's been a heavy rain weekend so far, the Google says .41 inches so far.

I learned to ride motorcycle during the winter somewhere around 1980 (memory is fuzzy :-) when a drought ended.

I rode to work and back every night on my 350 CL, sometimes through low spots with 15" of water.
That's the combustion chamber of the turbo shaft. It is supposed to be on fire. You just don't usually see it but the case and fairing fell off.

It is too wet along the northwest coastline. Reduces the riding opportunities a lot.

Dusty,

Seems we are into that pacific jet stream pattern, and you and northern TEXAS are getting the brunt.  Houston has cycled from extremely wet to extremely dry.  The May floods were amazing, then it dried out and burned up a lot of the summer.

This morning it is 49F and light rain.  Hence why the interest in riding boots that are at least somewhat waterproof.  My feet would be soaked and freezing within minutes this morning, so no ride although I really could use one.

Sigh, oh well.  Sunny weather sometime next week though, and I will get out.

Yeah they do wear cowboy boots West of OKC , but there are only about 200 people out in that part of OK , so that doesn't count

Engineer boots here in the very deep south and no rain.  I'm putting the wife in the side car and going to the beach.

Huge ice storm here.  Power on and off.   I think 7000 homes have no power in my town.  One of my buddies has no power.  Lots of broken trees and tree limbs.  This is worse because many trees still had leaves on them, some were full of leaves.  Moved the car on my drive to maneuver through the branches on my elm tree- glad I keep it trimmed.  My ewe has a broken.  Walked down the block and I could hear the limbs crack.  Lots of big limbs on the sidewalk.  My house & yard is in better shape- knock wood.

................... .............

I'd say the cowboy boot fad sort of went away with Garth Brooks' shirts.  But if you wear them everyday they'll break in and become tolerable if you like the heels.  Now the fad is urban hipster with sandals or workboots with flannel shirts and long shorts, bushy beards and tattoos.

CHAINSAW!  Save your roof/house.  Trim the tree back.  If you're not sure pay someone to do it.
