2013 V7, Is TPS reset required after ECU reflash? Other steps?
« on: November 28, 2015, 08:41:14 PM »
Picked up my bike today after service.  Asked if they'd checked for new ECU map and they'd forgotten so they hooked it up and reflashed while I waited.  Loaded up on the trailer (less than 30 degrees F today so I didn't ride) and fired it up, started fine, so I took it home.  After unloading thought I might run it up the block so let it warm up for a few minutes but any time I try to open the throttle it bogs and dies.
Did they miss some steps?  Like TPS reset or anything else after the reflash?

If I'm not mistaken, I read a post of someone having a similar issue. They couldn't rev past 2k rpm. I think they disconnected the battery for 15 minutes and that forced to ECU to reinitialize. I don't think it is necessary to reset the TPS on the single throttle body models. Can someone else confirm this.

TPS re-set and auto learn parameters is pretty critical when flashing the MIU ECU.  Wouldn't hurt to check plug wires and caps too.

I had the 10K service done so in addition to all fluids I had them do plugs, wires, caps, flash new map, etc.
I'll try the battery disconnect to see if that helps, otherwise I may just talk to the dealer and wait until spring (I'm in Minnesota after all).

Does Guzzidiag work on the 2013 V7 single throttle body?  I was under the impression that wouldn't work.
May need to do some more reading... thanks.

Even the factory seems a bit vague as to what to do after a map upload with the MUIG 3!

Pre V7-II bikes it was stated that the only time you performed a TPS re-set was after a map upload. That was later re-worded to you only did a map upload if the TPS value had changed to outside of its acceptable value. With the V7-II this was changed again in that a TPS re-set is only supposed to be carried out within the first thousand Km of use. The reason for this I was told is that wear occurs on the plastic drive wheel within the MUIG 3 unit rendering future changes inaccurate! After this 1000Km interval any *Issues* are supposedly only fixable by replacement of the entire unit! This sounds like spectacular bollocks to me but it was what I was told!

peter, what if, like  in this case there is a problem after the map update? That made the ecu worthless? If you replace it, get one with old map, upgrade it and have the same problem again?

Here is the follow up.
Tried the battery disconnect and that didn't help so back on the trailer and into the dealer this morning.
They were genuinely concerned and helped unload and roll it straight into the shop and hooked up tpads.
Tried a TPS reset first but that didn't help and then cleared all the learning parameters and rolled it outside to idle and relearn for 5-10 minutes.
After that they were able to hop on and take a test ride where everything ran as it should.

In my book any shop can make a mistake but it's how they handle the follow up that counts, and they did it right.
Thanks Scooterville in Mpls.

Craig is currently having problems with his V7-II which started after a new map upload. I've tried most of my common tricks and it's still playing up. I'm hoping to get it back in this week and if I can't sort it I'll just warranty the MUIG-3 as I'm getting no errors and all the sensors are checking out OK.

This is mainly the 'Warm Start' issue some others have experienced.

can't you go back to the older map that worked fine, or is that not possible with PADS?

Not with Guzzi AFAIK. One way only, although that might not be the case with the MUIG. It might be possible to get a release code from the factory.
