The LBM Du... (let's just call it an L-head engine) team will be there--running a limited schedule this season as they did last season.  It would be nice if teams received the factory support that people think they do.

Deke, it's OK to say Ducati  Yes , factory support would be cool , of course flat track has always been a grass roots sport , which has its good and bad .

Deke, it's OK to say Du...

Sure, but when you see advertising for the Scrambler Flat Track model along with pictures that capitalize on somebody else's efforts, it's hard not to want to hand out free advertising in the other direction.

Certain teams with green Kawasakis have tried the "we'll shame them into supporting us because people will assume they do" approach.  I don't think that works, either.

You are probably correct , and until we see crowds of 20K at the races on a consistent basis , the factories won't really care . Even the MoCo isn't nearly as involved as 30 years ago .

Wishful thinking on my part . Sad , but even the HD dealer where Carolyn's SIL works seems to be unaware of any significance attached to this race . I've tried to pique people interest , mostly get blank stares in return .

I talked to a HD salesman @ the Joplin Harley lifestyle store, he was actually pretty pumped about the whole deal. The yam triumph shop in Springfield mo actually had a poster on the bulletin board for the event

John, the locals are buying tickets in the glassed in grandstand and buying table tickets for bar & food.

I figure we'll want to be outside.  The table guys are free to go to outside.  I can get advanced tickets if you want.

Check the website and let me know what your preference is.

I say we buy Gen Adm at the gate and take some lawn chairs.  If there's room in grandstands we'll leave the chairs and sit in the bleachers.  Reading the e-mail it looks like the best thing.

No way I am going to sit behind glass.  And a mid June evening should be pretty bearable if not out & out pleasant.

Sounds great but hauling a lawn chair from Springfield mo on a bike won't be a visceral experience. But I want to sit outside

If you don't have a camping chair, I have some bag chairs that I got at Walmart for $5.  I've been known to leave them (or have them taken before I packed them).

TW,

I am still working on it.  There are five parks that we can camp but the city has been adamant that campsites can't be reserved in advance, everything is first come, first served.  And to make it worse, there are only two shower facilities.  So I am trying to get a pavilion for the BBq but wanting to get it in same park that we might camp.  And even crazier, if get three RV campsites, we get the pavilion for free- talk about Catch 22!

I've sent a request into the city to make an exception but it's pretty doubtful.

So I am thinking about reserving the best pavilion and hopeful that we can find three RV sites there on Thursday or Friday.

well, I live here and I'll be able to grab a few spots and there should be some available regardless.  Where I have the most problems putting it all together:
1) Can I get campsites in the same park with the reserved pavilion?
2) Can I get campsites somewhat close together, or even adjacent?
3) Can I get campsites close to showers?   (Five campgrounds & two showers) basically one shower to service 3 campgrounds on RT 66 and one shower to service the other campground on 15th street (6 miles away)

I'd like to be able to get the pavilion and campsites at Scissortail campground on 15th Street.

wow Deke,  that thing looks like a real bad boy.

So why run a Duc (vs Kaw)?  Is it the familiarity and time invested?

Two years ago, the team ran a Harley-Davidson, Kawasaki and Ducati.  Whatever Jake Johnson wanted that day is what he'd use--leaving the announcers to often get it wrong when they called the race.  It actually worked, but that's a lot of variation to handle.

Both David and Michael have a lot of passion to put that Ducati on top of the box (as they did with Joe Kopp).  This season, the Kawasaki is probably the benchmark on the horsepower miles, but on a deep track, the Ducati can do well.  If Oklahoma kept the soft dirt, the Ducati would do better.  If it's been scraped to hardpan, the Kawasaki will do well.  But, so much depends on setup and the rider's ability to work the conditions.  Watching these guys in the pits trying to anticipate the conditions makes you think that road-racing is simple by comparison.

Deke , road racing is simpler than dirt track . Go ahead all of you road racing fans , scoff , but the simple sport of flat track is incredibly difficult .

 Dusty

dirt is difficult.  It changes from track to track, and at the track it changes minute to minute.  Sand, clay, moisture, slick, tacky lots of variables.  And with that fence, lots of bravery.

It looks like the web site is down.

Stub Hub shows a sell out of all reserved seats with GA only.

http://www.stubwire.com/events/okcmile/2016/

No one here has purchased tickets and neither have I.  So I hope the GA works out.

I have reserved a pavilion for BBQ on Friday at a Hafer Park (in town -not at Lake Arcadia).  But that is tentative, maybe we'll postpone the club BBQ and I'll cook for you guys at my trailer.

as I posted in late March.  You might want to call him or e-mail him.  My biggest concern is the view from GA seats:

Re: Fwd: OKC Mile Tickets
From    brassmonkeyracing@yahoo.com
to    lowryter@xxxxxx.com

Hello John,

Unfortunately all of the outdoor seating is General Admission.  The Remington venue is unique (unfortunately), in that it only has picnic tables and benches outside (enough for a few hundred).  We are renting portable bleachers that will seat around 2000-3500.  There is good viewing from lots of areas but the front strait-a-way has the benefit of a very large jumbo tron which all of the fanschoice.tv cameras will be linked to.

So to answer your question.  If you purchase general admission tickets I'm certain you will have a great view of the race.  In my opinion the best view, just that the seating is extremely limited.  There are many shady/grassy areas one could place folding chairs if your friends chose to bring their own.  As far as limited admissions...I'm certain that wont happen.  I believe the capacity of Remington is around 22,000.  I would love to see that problem come to fruition, but not likely.

I hope this helps answer your questions and don't hesitate to send me a note or give me a call should you have any more.

Thank you,

Shawn Brassfield
