Arai Pro-Shade system
« on: December 12, 2015, 09:25:57 AM »
Anyone have any experience with the Arai pro shade system? Looks like a neat solution to sun glare without having to switch between clear and tinted shields.

I have it on my Arai RX-Q (or is it RQ-X?). Very stable. The down side is, it's yet another layer of plastic, but that's the same with the internal shields. Arai simply doesn't believe in shaving part of the shell off for internal sun shields famously. I also have a Shoei GT Air with the internal shield.

I have it, use it, and think it works well.

Can it be added to all Aria helmets?
Thanks Bob

I would think that the farther away from your eyes the darker shield is, the less easy it is to see through it.

I prefer to wear sunglasses even though my helmet has an internal sun shield, the closeness of the sunglasses make vision so much better. Following that, it seems like internal sun visors provide better vision that something a few inches away and past the clear visor.

I've been on a run of Arai helmets for a long time, but recently decided to try something new and got a Bell helmet with a transitions visor - it goes from light to dark with exposure to sunlight. I'm pleased with the visor (and the helmet).

If there is a difference due to where the sun shield is mounted I cannot tell.
I have used sunglasses with the Pro System, visor up and visor down, with no apparent (to me) change in any of the different configurations possible with the system.  I've also used the system with contacts and regular glasses in all combinations-again with no difference noted.

I also use a Bell with the transition lens, which is very well done.  The helmet, well, not so much.  Way too much noise compared to the ARAI.

This time of year, a strip or two of painter's tape is probably more effective. That said, the long oval Signet Arai helmet is one of my favorites.

Agreed on all  accounts.

My current helmet, a Spar-X Corsa, fits amazingly close to my previous Signet / S.

And after scratching several fragile Iridium $hield$, I opted for the Old School technology of Taping-On a sun shield.

Kind of similar to what I use now...its call Helmet Sunblocker. http://helmetsunblocker.com/  Static cling on the inside of the shield. It covers the upper 1/4th of the shield and is quite effective and I've used them for years.

But sometimes wished I had more coverage and that why the Arai solution is appealing. Looks like others like it so I'll pop for one.

They now come in two lengths.  I have the shorter one and am pleased with it's performance.  WebBikeWorld has a write-up on the new size as well as the original.

I've used the helmetsunblockers for years.  This time of year though, you need something opaque, so the painters tape goes on in addition.

I've always used electrical tape.  Even on my drop down sun visors.

I am one who loves the drop down versions.  No worrying about an extra tinted shield.  Don't have to change from regular to sunglasses.  When you go from sun to shade you just flip it up.  I would like to try one of the photosensitive shields one day, if they work fast enough on the sun-shade transition.
