Norge Pricing
« on: January 12, 2016, 11:05:00 AM »
I noticed a dealer selling a 2008 Norge for $7599. Seeing that '07's are in the $5-6K range, I thought that the price for this '08 was kind of steep. Any thoughts?

Seems a bit steep to me. Moto International was recently selling NEW 2014 Norges for $9,990 (+ setup & freight).

MG has heavily discounted the 2014 leftover Norges for the last several months.  I came very close to buying one that was offered to me (from an authorized dealer) for $11,800.......out the door (fees, freight, sales tax, license, etc).  I decided to go with a different bike but you can still find a new Norge at a similar price. (depends on your sales tax rate from the state that you live in, etc).
That being said, IMHO, an 08 for $7599 is too much to pay.

A good offer might be $3700 and go from there, if the bike has been well maintained and is in very good condition. Don't pay for accessories, those were their personal choices.

MSRP is over 16k and brand new they can be had for the high 9k range. For the lucky owner that is over 7k drop before it leaves the showroom floor.

While closeout year discounts are everyday, if you are buying right now, it is worth considering. For just over a couple of grand you get the latest generation, a warranty and brand new to you. That is a lot of benefit over a used Norge.

Right now, a one year old Norge might get $7k and still have warranty.

NADA book for a 2014 Norge is around 12k.

That's gotta be old.  I'd sure be tempted to get the 2014 leftover.  Oh wait, that's what I did!  Worth every penny.

I don't think anyone is going to sell a used Norge for $3700! They are selling in the range of $5-5500 for an '07. I sold one for $5500 and the other for $5700 a year ago.  I would consider a new one, but I prefer a 2V motor and the warranty is only good if you have a "capable" dealer within a days ride! That doesn't seem to be common in many parts of the country

NADA book for a 2014 Norge is around 12k.

Then pay the NADA 12k instead of 9k for a new one? I wouldn't.

Book values are all over the place and different locations have different demands and supply.

In some areas maybe 5000-5500. Not here, not even close.

This isn't the best time of year to sell a bike. The Norge has a much smaller market and an 09 bike is 7 calendar years old.

Truth is value is what it is to you. Some people pay MSRP and are happy, others get the same thing for thousands less and are happy too.

I didn't say you could buy one for $3700, I said it was a starting point. You can always go up in offer price, rarely back down unless something is wrong with the bike.

If they get insulted by a low offer, maybe they should keep it. Pay the least amount, not the most.

Maybe start at 3700 and end up at 4500 which is what they have sold for around here. Its 7 years old and is what it is.

Book values aren't reliable very often.

2014 retail value is $10,555
2014 trade is $7470

That is KBB

Nada

Avg retail is $12170
Low retail is $9250

Quite a big difference and we know you can get brand new for the high 9k range.

Some sellers do well and get close to their asking price, they are good sellers and some people can sell a bike for top book value while others couldn't get low book. The book is just a guide and not a real good one at that.

Find the right buyer, an 09 goes for $5700. Find the right seller and pay $4500 for the same year and condition.

Its business and if you get emotional when buying or selling, no matter if its a Moto Guzzi or Hodaka, more than likely its the other guy that gets the best end of the deal.

You seemed to have done very well on your buy. At any reasonable price and some unreasonable, a Norge is an extraordinary bike and isn't the true measure of value not in the money it cost us but the pleasure we get from riding it?

Who among us Norge owners would sell the grins we get, the satisfaction we feel or the confidence we get from riding a Norge? That isn't something you can buy, its just for us lucky few who happen to make a better choice in motorcycles than most.

There isn't anyone riding anything else who has something on the Norge rider. No insult intended to anyone riding a different MG.

NADA is well named - it's about what their information is worth (says a former motorcycle salesman). KBB is not really any better. The guys who do the books just don't know about bikes and the bike market the way they do about cars and pickups - and they have had some questionable business practices (a few years back there was a settlement of a lawsuit over manipulated valuations for bikes).

Here in California, the KBB or NADA can only be used to value a used vehicle for insurance payout purposes (vehicle totaled) when there are no comps in the last 90 days and no dealer to give a fair market value.  Even the State realized those books do not represent the real value of vehicles in California.

Matthews Fun Machines in the suburbs of Charlotte was advertising them a few weeks ago.  I don't know if they have any left; give them a call.  *But...........be aware that they have a customer on this forum who has had problems with his 2012 Norge that he purchased from them and they have done a poor job when it comes to repairing the problems that he's had without having to return for multiple visits in an attempt to repair the bike properly.  His forum name is bobbyfromnc.  Here's his ID page on the forum: http://wildguzzi.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=14908

Best way to find out is when you are ready to buy. Then it depends on where you are willing to go to get it. Money talks. MI has great deals but then so do other MG dealers who can and do equal MIs prices.

Call around. MI will give you a great deal if they have one there and willing to go get it. Call around.

In any case, a Norge is a great machine.

Matthews has two white 2014's and 1 black 2013 in stock.  They've advertised them at $10,990 but that excludes shipping, setup, and a doc fee (and taxes and tags).  Final negotiated price is up to you and them.

At one point (several weeks ago), they had them in Cycle Trader at $9995. (plus freight fees, etc) but you are correct that they've now moved the price up $1000.  Chances are that they want to move these bikes so the higher price would be negotiable.

This has got to be the screaming deal of the century! Why are not all of these Norges sold?

The market for the Norge is probably one of the smallest there is. While it is a good bike, take the typical buyer for an ST. First, the chances of even seeing one is close to nil unless you live close to a dealer that has one. Why fly and ride when you can pick up and ride pretty much anything else locally?

It sure isn't price because they can be had for a lot less than any other ST. The people willing to buy one without being able to drive down to a local dealer and even sit on one and then travel a long time, even across the country to see one in the hopes it is all that is insignificant. Even if it costs thousands more, typical buyers will go down and buy the Honda, BMW, Yamaha or a pick from many others because there are dealers around and they have the bike sitting there.

Most of us were willing to look for a Norge to buy, I know I did. It wasn't a money thing, just wanted a Norge. That is me, you and how many others? I'm in California where more motorcycles are sold than any other state yet I have yet to see another Norge. For all I know, there might be 3 of us that actually have one.

We talk about the bike's character, ease of maintenance and soul. Others hear little dealer support, slim parts availability, frequent maintenance, oil leaks, a DIY bike and so on. Perception often matters more than reality.

A double edged sword, good prices for those who wait for year end deals but overall, very few who want to bother. Just the way it is.

I don't know how many people bought them at MSRP or even close so hard to tell if it's really worth selling them here. Does anyone know what it costs to make one?

From $16k + to $9k+ is a pretty big discount close to $6500k, closing on on half price for brand new typical sale.

Australia, only 173 Guzzi's sold in 2013

One of the things I like about my Moto Guzzi is its rarity. I like riding something that is different/unusual.

I want Moto Guzzi to make and sell profitably as many bikes as they can, but I will continue to enjoy some exclusivity until Moto Guzzi sales sky-rocket...

I think there are currently about a dozen of us in California, although Damien is selling his, but it will probably stay in the state, just with a new owner.  I've actually ridden with another person who also owns a Red first generation Norge. Kind of weird.  The folks at Newcomb's Ranch couldn't believe they were seeing not just two Moto Guzzis at a time, but a matching pair (more or less).

Now if they would add cruise control and engine mapping we'd be close to the other ST offerings.

Oh, and I completely, and unconditionally recommend Moto International - that's were mine came from.  I've still yet to meet Dave.  The entire transaction was conducted by email and telephone with the bike shipped to my doorstep.

There is like ONE leftover Norge in the mpls/ saint paul area and they want over 13k for a 2013.
