  Spent a week riding in SF mid 1990's , which obviously was 29 years ago , damn . However , the experience was pleasant enough , didn't witness any thing that doesn't happen in any other city , in fact most drivers and other riders were courteous enough . Has it changed that much ???

Dusty, it's not the drivers, it's the politicians operating the state that have driven so many of us out with their inane decisions and laws.  I've seen more reckless drivers in the South than anywhere out West.

 Let's see if we can gently steer this away from politics . We had one deputy acting poorly which is very unfortunate , but does happen , and it sounds like the authorities dealt with it . Not sure we can draw sweeping conclusions from this one case . Every state , county , and city has problems fellas .

I don't want to start a political fight here, but what I stated is why more people are leaving this state than entering it.   New York state has the same issues.  If you don't care how your state operates then none of this matters to you and that's OK.

 That is the beauty of our country , don't like it in one place , move . AND , while most of us care how our state operates , WG isn't the place to discuss our beliefs .

This is about motorcyclists and how the public in general perceives those of us who ride. I don't see this as a political issue at all but one of how just a few can really damage how motorcyclists are seen in general.

There is other video of what these riders were doing and it is scary to watch as they nearly cleared intersections with both wheels off the ground, in a city where lots of people walk and traffic is often very heavy.

Similar behavior can be seen by some car drivers, they have shut down freeways doing donuts and stuff like that. The public though, doesn't look at it the same way as when motorcyclists do this kind of stuff. It doesn't help when you hear the really loud piped bikes where the riders think making as much noise as possible will actually make people move over for them.

The result is that with the cars many people think  it is kids or something like that but when it comes to motorcycles, the term "Motorcycle Gang" is used.

When car drivers stop all lanes of a freeway to perform exhibitions of speed and such it makes the news one day if that. This has been shown everyday for about a week and then hits the local online media too. It became a pretty big deal on the news. The cars? Short mention, next day nothing.

It sure didn't help that the leader of that mess was a deputy sheriff.

I've learned not to do the math just give the time.  I haven't ridden SF since the '70's on a Cafe Bike and I remember it as an "everyone's out to get me" experience which is not surprising since I'm usually in a little car in SF.

And then there's that one time in the early 80's that I drove through the Financial District of SF in a "highly modified" lifted Bronco Ultimate Hunting Machine.  All the little Mercedes, BMW's and Porsche's gave me all the room I wanted.

CA crushes all states in GDP & tops some countries you might find hard to believe like Italy, Australia & Canada. We can't possibly be too dysfunctional.

That is true of most stories, they are usually regional. I tried to keep this non political and avoid that stuff. I saw this as motorcycle related.

I've ridden my motorcycle through San Francisco, Oakland, East Bay Area, Los Angeles and San Diego within the last two years and never saw any of this stuff.  I have seen reckless lane splitters (I have split lanes but at slow speeds) zipping around but this stuff is at a higher level.  It isn't the norm in California any more than it is normal for a bike group to block in a car and beat the driver (Last year in New York City).  I guess it is more the youtube phenom as now anyone can get a gopro camera and post stupid stuff on the internet.  To get the views I guess you need to keep the risk up.  Seems I've heard Huston is another area where groups of motorcycles go on out of control stunting so Texas must all be the same right?
