I bought a V7 II, passing on the summer/fall deal, and would also have passed on this deal. I held off on buying a V7 because I wanted ABS and knew, due to European regulatory requirements, that it was coming. The six speed transmission was a bonus. These discounted bikes are a good deal if you don't care about those issues, but the reality is that they are being discounted for a second time in six months for a reason.

Thus far, I've seen nothing that would prompt me to trade my '14 V7S on a newer V7II.  That's all I'll say about that...

I was not trying to turn this into a V7 vs V7 II discussion, and certainly not into a discussion on why you should, or should not, sell your V7 in order to buy a V7 II.

I was talking about new V7 buyers and why I think Moto Guzzi has discounted the V7 I bikes again.

Here's why I think Moto Guzzi has dropped the price again. First, I believe, rightly or wrongly, that most Moto Guzzi buyers aren't particularly price sensitive. Secondly, I think that within two to three years, trying to sell a contemporary bike without ABS is going to be like trying to sell a five year old computer.

I wouldn't touch the clearance V7s at even the current discounted price unless I didn't care about ABS (which I do, and the new transmission is welcome), and also didn't care about re-sale value.

It's not an accident that the new Ducati Scrambler comes with ABS.

Anyway, the point of the first four posts in this thread is that Moto Guzzi's latest pricing for the V7 I is a "killer deal"

My response, for the reasons expressed above, is that whether that pricing is a "killer deal" depends on what one wants.

In my case, I rejected the August pricing (ultimately extended, if I recall, through December), and also have no interest in the current deeper discount.

Just a different take that some prospective V7 purchasers might find worth considering.

There's no way I'm trading my 750 Breva for any newer V7, which I think are inferior.  It seems some here are more interested in resale value than if a newer version of a V7 is really that much better than the 1 they already have.  I'm not in the habit of changing my MCs every few years just because a newer bike version has some new doo dad on it mine doesn't.

This thread is about whether a twice discounted V7 I at a "killer price" is in fact a "killer price".

What you've mostly said is that you think that a V7, in comparison with your Breva, is "inferior".

Congrats on your superior bike.

P.S. Do yah figure that there's just a chance that those who want ABS might want it for reasons that go beyond wanting "do dads"?

If you're a competent rider you don't need ABS.  ABS is to make inferior riders feel safe.  Whether it will really do that is suspect, IMHO.

The point I was trying to make in starting this thread was to inform the members here of good deals to be had.
I was not trying to start a V7-I vs. V7-II discussion, or a Breva 750 vs. V7 discussion.

I had dragged my feet and missed out on the August deals.    The price went back up $1,000 in Sept, and then, the remaining discount expired the end of October.

I was lucky enough to get my slightly used '14 thanks to Cam.   If not, I'd likely be buying the black & orange V7 Special from AF1.

So, if anyone here regrets not buying one when they were discounted early, here's another chance.

That is all.

This is the kind of statement that makes this whole forum frequently come across as completely out of touch with the 21st century and modern technology. There's so much that goes on here that makes one wonder whether anyone is under 50. Although even then, it's hard to understand how anyone at 50 could be so out of touch with technology. And if you tell me that you're under 50, it just makes it worse. It's often hard to distinguish what goes on in this forum from a Harley Davidson hangout. You may think that that's cool, but it sure isn't the future of Moto Guzzi.

No, I'm not going to start it, but there needs to be a Moto Guzzi forum that (to use a Yiddish term for which there isn't an English translation) isn't completely dominated by a bunch of alte kakers.

I'll keep any future posts to strictly technical issues. At the end of the day, I'm more interested in the materials composition of a V7 than I am in being told by some faceless idiot that if I'm interested in ABS I'm an "inferior rider".

And God forbid that I should suggest that there is a reason why Moto Guzzi has yet again dropped prices on V7s, and that maybe these bikes may not be, for some people, the "killer deal" that some of you think.

Fortunately, Moto Guzzi installs a back to the future button on its ABS equipped models. It shuts off the ABS and directs the rider to the nearest pharmacy where kerosene is stocked next to the gerbils and milk of amnesia just past the Niagara Falls brand of poopie pants underwear and Velcro polyester jumpsuits.

"the nearest pharmacy where kerosene is stocked"

Not having a generator at my fishing camp, I do use kerosene lamps when we lose power. Never seen it in a pharmacy, though. At one time, I guess they stocked it, like tubes for tube amps and televisions. But these days, the tubes for my amp come from the Czech Republic, and the kerosene comes from the closest general store to my camp. The nearest pharmacy is 60 miles away.

Jay,

Thanks for posting this, I had missed the August promotion because I was away. I have been interested in the 2014 - 2015 models, since they appear to have all the upgrades that I like, but lack some of the extra electronic components that I don't require. All personal preference, I have nothing against ABS. I have ABS on my R 1100 RS, and it's just fine.

My thoughts on why MG is doing the promotion are that there are too many bikes stockpiled, it's January, and the  promotion is for non current models.

What exactly do you think is interior?

The better fuel range in the better material (metal) fuel tank?

The better powerband of the better looking motor that requires less maintenance (no TB syncing or TPS adjustment)?

The better looking/lower unsprung weight wheels?

What I find inferior  on the new V7s is their seats and not having 17" rims front & rear.  My Breva has a very linear power band and hope the V7s do too.  If you don't have 17" rims f & R it isn't going to handle as good assuming you can tell the difference, + I have more tire options available   Right now my favorite combo is a Kenda front & Shinko rear.

Let me get this straight.

The V7 IIs, although you don't own one, is inherently inferior to your Brava. Congratulations on owning a superior motorcycle.

Also, according to an earlier post from you in this thread, anyone who wants ABS is by definition "an inferior rider".

Do you have any more words of wisdom for us?
