Riding something other than a Guzzi to a Guzzi Rally...
« on: January 20, 2016, 07:24:17 PM »
Wife Sue and I are planning the Summer's worth of long over due rally attendance, I have not been available for Summer travel for about three years due to my business travel schedule and that has thankfully changed... for the better.

A couple of years ago Sue confessed that she has not been really comfortable on some of the Guzzis that we have owned, back issues and all.  So we bought a Harley Electra Glide in 2013 and she loves the comfort.

So...  we have picked the 1st Annual Nova Scotia Campout so far and we are planning more.

Are we going to be turned away from a Guzzi rally if we ride in on the HD or a BMW...?

See you on the road this Summer...

Rob & Sue

I've ridden a Harley to the National in VA and the Damn Yankee BMW/Guzzi rallys without so much as a snide remark cast my way.

But I've equally ridden Guzzis or a Ducati to a Harley event with the same.

Any Guzzi Rally I have attended always welcomed other brands. I would say that 90+ % OF Guzzi owners are always interested in all brands of bikes.

Ride what works for you.  But I will say it was a little bizzar for me, at the 15" IL Guzzi rally.  There were more brand X bikes than Guzzis!

So with that in mind, I really encourage those that can, to ride the Bird, it just makes sense!

I have attended more Guzzi gatherings on Yammer Hammers, and Webley Vickers, than on Guzzis.

i don't believe I have ever in all these years attended a Guzzi event that didn't include folks riding all sorts of other brand bikes. Heck, many Guzzi owners also have HDs, BMWs and Hondas sitting at home. One of my regular riding buddies attends Guzzi Rallies either on his Triumph or his old Norton 850 Comando. The Norton always gets more attention than any of my Guzzis. Ride on in, your sure to feel right at home.

I rode a K75 to my first Guzzi Rally (WI, 1998), and a K1100 to the Guzzi National in the Black Hills (2004?).  No problem.

OTOH, I have ridden my T3 and EV to BMW national and regional rallies as well.

I little good-natured ribbing on a couple of occasions but was always welcome.

My policy has always been...... Guzzi meets in Virginia are for anyone interested in Guzzis, no matter what they ride...or drive.
On a personal level the only time I've ever had any brand issue was at a BMW rally many moons ago. I was on my SP & was not allowed to compete in the field events because I wasn't on a beemer.

If you ride a Guzzi you must have got used to the "unenlightened" taking the piss as they trumpet the virtues of their rice burner or whatever

Ride what you like I'm sure everyone will get over it

2012 Guzzi National - I was "between" Guzzis...

2012 Damn Yankee Beemer/Guzzi Rally - same story

But now that I think about it I've got a long history of such things, like riding a Harley to the BMW Square Root Rallye in MD or the BMW Finger Lakes Rallye, or riding a BMW or a Guzzi (especially the Jackal) to a Harley event.

Maybe that's the "rebel" in me lol.

Years ago, I attended a National Matchless Rally near Pennsylvania.  I flew in and rented a car.  At the rally site, about 6 people turned out but there were no Matchless bikes!

One of the local Matchless dudes had a garage full of the bikes even though he hadn't ridden one to the rally!  He suggested that we cancel the rally and he invited us ALL over to his house. He put each one of us on a Matchless and we spent the entire day following him on a scenic ride through the Pennsylvania Amish country.  Great experience!

I held the  Arizona Guzzi rally for 10 years and only once denied entry to anyone , and that was because they didn't want to pay the rally fee.

I had all brands of bikes there but ONLY Guzzis got to be in the bike show. Riders of other makes were eligible for door prizes, rider awards and 50/50 drawing.

Oddly enough, Leafman60 and I were just talking about the only time we could remember an issue of what brand bike we were riding.  At Daytona a couple years ago he and I walked around the campground after dark.  We came upon a campfire with 5-6 folks chatting.  The fire was really welcome due to the chill that night.  We plopped down in our Kermit chairs and listened to the conversation.  Soon one of the folks there started giving Leafman60 a hard time...really nasty...because he was wearing a Guzzi sweater.  The bottom line was that the campfire was for airhead owners ONLY.  As it turned out, both Leafman60 and I also had airheads, just not at the campground.  In spite of that defense the confrontation was enough to make us glad to leave.  Bottom line, one asshat can be enough to sour the mood.  I sold that damn BMW.  In the 50-60 rallies I have attended over the years this is the only time brand made a difference.
