Has your passenger called asleep while you were riding ( talking motorcycles here OK?)

Was it the helmet bang that gave them away or something else? Got a story?

Yes my wife would fall asleep often on my BMW R80
I would feel her resting against me
my ex girlfriend however would experience a very different sensation on the back of my vibrating Yamaha RD400

Long ago, on the Southern Tier Expressway, riding a bitsa Ironhead Sportster. It was late at night, with 200 miles to go. I was wondering why the bike felt so unstable, every few seconds it would to tilt violently to one side or the other. I finally looked back to see her head bobbing,then her whole upper body hinge at the waist and drop.
The Sporty was no luxury ride, and the Southern Tier Ex. (now I 86), had huge expansion joints, but she was pretty drunk. I had to pull into a truck stop, get some food and coffee in her,before I could continue. Needless to say, I didn't make my planned midnight arrival, more like 5:00 AM.

In my modified MC days, going from LA to SD, had my girlfriend fall asleep leaned on the backrest with her legs around my waist. Still can't believe she didn't fall off.

My wife and I were about 40 years old when we met. I had a 73 Ducati 750 bevel drive with loud Conti mufflers. She would get dozy and sorta fall asleep. She said the rhythm of the engine was soothing....

My son would fall asleep on the 75 Wing and 850T. That's when we started playing "Slug Bug".

Yes, my eldest daughter would fall asleep, bumping her helmet into mine.
Never fell off, though. She was in her twenties at the time.

I rented an HD ultra classic to ride the three sisters last October. My wife fell asleep on the back. I wanted to go to sleep riding that motorcycle.

The little woman has slept through some pretty unbelievable rides. In 2001 after a few years without a bike I bought a GL1800 Wing and we took our first trip. We rode over 650 miles oe day from Gorham, NH to the to of Lake Ontario at Coburg, ON. We woke the next morning and were going to Niagara Falls. The closer we got to Toronto the worse the rode. It was cut up and scarred and traffic was passing me left and right going close to 90 mph. The bike was wiggling and weaving with the road, a horrible ride. I pulled into Hamilton for fuel coffe and a donut and pulling up to the pumps she asked we if we had gone past Toronto. The sleep of the innocents!

Back when my wife rode she would frequently sleep on long rides. One time starting off from a stop I noticed her legs by my shoulder and had to hit the brakes with some gusto. Not happy that I woke her up? Go figure.

When does Kim not fall asleep? Well she's always awake to catch me when I do something bone headed.

She wants the Wing so that she can get the wrap around armrests.

I once fell asleep as the pilot. No passengers. It was the middle of the night on a long trip to northern MI. I must have slackened the heavy throttle on the T as I began to doze. As the bike slowed down to near idle pace and listed, I was jolted awake and recovered. No traffic, and no harm experienced. Lesson learned. This was in my early 20's and at that time I could fall asleep without effort and at inopportune times.

I noticed Bev had dozed off after we had taken a run to the Wichita Mtns. We were passing the James Bros hideout (Buzzard's Roost) just east of Cement OK.

So going down the hill, I just grabbed some throttle hit an indicated 105. Bev never stirred until we got into Chickasha.

30+ years ago, my girlfriend (now wife) and I were heading back to NC from Williamsburg, VA. We were on my 550 Katana. I pulled away from a toll both and tached it up and Vickie almost broke my ribs as she grabbed me. I didn't realize that she was asleep.

i started nodding off on my way to the Canadian Guzzi national rally the other year. I had been up for about 36 or more hours and finally had to stop and get a room for the night.

My SIL used to sleep on the back of their Gold Wing. Big arm rests and nice back rest kinda locked her in place. When not sleeping she'd read a book.

My wife use to read a book while we rode. She'd prop a paperback on my back and enjoy her ride.

Karen, now 73, is taken only for short rides, about 20 miles each way. In her younger days, I would feel the bump or the slump and give her the elbow. Worked for a while. At 79, I take brief naps but usually awaken by the next curve. So far...

I mostly ride without a pillion these days, but yes in the past I have had pillions fall asleep.

I had one friend who fell asleep a few times; Once we were riding on motorway in the late evening and I noticed that the gap in our shadows seemed much larger than it should be... I realised he was asleep and slowly falling backwards. I leaned back to thump his legs, which woke him up, but he came to with bit of a start realising he was on the verge of falling back. His sudden sit-up gave the bike a right old shake and with only one hand on the bars and one trying to steady/catch him....it was all a bit hairy for a moment. But hey, we were young, we were invincible, we giggled....

What concerned me more and was ongoing for a few years, was that for a while I had a real tendency to feel really sleepy when riding, especially at night, especially on the motorway. I would be riding....feel fine, but then I would notice my eyelids just feeling heavier and heavier till it was a real effort to keep my eyes open. After a few years, I realised what was happening. That helmet (actually a family hand-down) was a Bell designed for car-racing and had no internal baffles around the chin, and air would come in at the bottom and blow up over my scarf/snood whatever and just breeze across my eyelashes, just gently moving them. It was this that was causing my eyelids to feel heavy and by association to feel sleepy.

Of course, I didn't sleep much in those days either, which didn't help. :-)

Don't have the problem with the Cali, have a screen, and helmets are just way way better.

When we tour on the GTL, my wife sleeps on the bike most days, usually just after lunch, she will have a nap. She's been doing this for years on all our bikes.

@Green1000S. Yup my daughter would regularly fall asleep on a pushbike - right out - couldn't wake her. She hasn't fallen asleep on the Cali yet, but it would be hard, when you are holding on for dear life, bouncing up on 2in of Buddy seat and the grab bar. Working on a new seat....bet she falls asleep on that.

My daughter, who was about 9 at the time fell asleep a couple of times, once on the back of the Breva 1100, the other time on the VFR750.
Both times the clue with her helmet resting against my back, and staying there. I'd wake her with a gentle slap to the thigh with the left and, and then pull over to walk around for a few minutes.

It didn't take long either, in both cases, we were out for less than an hour.

My ex used to nap regularly on longer rides (mostly on the RK with backrest), and when we were dating Jenn fell asleep on the back of the R1100RS (with topcase) or the Jackal (with backrest). And my eldest daughter said she'd start to drift off on the Jackal or Breva (both with topcase).

I could usually tell from a nod of the helmet, or it going quiet in the communicator.

I never worried about it, it's not like they're gonna pull their leg from around me and throw it over the saddle to fall off. Hell I'd have felt if they shifted in any way.

And even in a corner the force of the turn is actually pushing them back into the seat or up out of the lean anyway.
