86 SP1000 throttle cable replacement

Hey folks,

Got the new cables only to discover that the old tommaselli adjusters do not have a slot to remove the cable w/o cutting the end. Do I need a cable making kit?.

If your bike has the early set-up on the grip, the adjusters come on the cables. This means you have to order cables for early throttle w/adjusters on it long enough to work and trim the outer sheath down to match free length of cable needed for PHF carbs.
I may be wrong but don't know what combination of throttle & carbs you have on the bike.

I'm pretty certain the carbs are VHB 30. Square slide.

That makes it easier for earlier cables w/adjusters.

Thanks for the responses. I had cables made by a local shop using the Tommselli adjusters. $15. It's what i should've done in the first place. The cables from MG cycle are generic Chinese and the housing is just short.

If you order the wrong cables, then (surprise!) they won't fit. MG Cycle's cables come from the US or Europe not China.

IIRC, and my pornographic memory isn't what it used to be, your bike should have round slide carbs and square slide cables won't work. Plus, there are 2 lengths of cables. One is the "Euro spec" which is longer. DAHIK.

Take a look at Harper's website, it has pics with lengths.
