I bought my Griso from MI in Seattle and did a 1000 mile ride home. I asked them about it and they said in no uncertain terms, "Don't worry about about it. Just change the oil when you get home". The only thing they cautioned against was droning along at constant rpm for hours, so I did a lot of passing, shifting and speeding up/slowing down for the several hundred miles. The bike was fine.

Yeah. The bike doesn't know the difference between 600 miles and 1000 miles.

409 miles, San Diego to Tucson to pick up the Bassa. What a blast riding it home after being Guzzi-less for twenty years.

My wife and I left town WAY behind schedule, and my wife is not happy at excessive speeds. She was a real trooper on the trip there.

" Honey, I'm not comfortable at 120 - will you please drop it back down to 110 ? "

I flew from Hartford CT to Knoxville Tn to pick up a Jackal for my son, about 1500 miles round trip.

A few years later drove it to his home in VA, 300 miles or so.
And this summer back to CT, this time I put it in the back of the pick up!

Let me know if you are interested in the Jackal...he wants to sell it.

1680 miles round trip to pick up a 07 Griso with 2400 miles on it. That was the weekend after driving back from a week in Texas. Fun times.

Last year it was 4000 mile round trip to Texas (KTM in tow), then daytona 500, then back to MI. This trip was kind of reverse of the above- the KTM stayed in Texas and an Accuracy International 300WM came back in it's place. Ahh, Texas.

I flew with my fiancee (at the time) from Grand Forks ND to Mesa Az (almost 2000 miles) to pick up and ride home two up a 1966 G5 that had over 200,000 miles on it. This was definitely an adventure with only a couple of electrical (starter) glitches on the trip. That trip is still one of the highlights of my life.

Thanks man! The bike is a couple of miles from where Wayne works so he went by and eye'd it for me. His finder's fee is a little steep though!

Back in 2009 chickencock (Heather my better half) and I flew to New Hampshire and rode the CalVin back home to southern Illinois 1200 miles. Best trip on a bike to date. One note when boarding an airplane while carrying a helmet it is not advised to tell them you brought the helmet along just in case the plane goes down.

Shortest trip was 2 miles once for a 850 T parts bike for a $100.00 and the other time was 2 miles for a running convert for $500.00, wish I would have fixed the convert brakes just so I could have test rode it.

Been away for too long on an assignment for work but ran across this and thought I would add my stats for a fly-n-ride.
A few years ago I flew home from Afghanistan to Peoria, IL. (8000 some odd miles) Got on another plane from there to Austin, Texas (1000 miles) to ride it back home (another 1000 miles). Bought the bike over the internet. Left Texas in the rain and cold and had a blast going home. Fantastic bike 2011 Norge Anniversary model in black with a trunk. Just what I was looking for.

Several years ago I bought a 1984 California II Convert parts bike on Ebay in Portland Oregon, got a $75. One way ticket from Kansas City to Portland and rode it home. I still have the same bike today and it is one of the best riding bikes I have.

I bought my first Guzzi, '04 California Special Sport, in Knoxville, TN and rode it back to Atlanta - 180 miles
I flew to DC and bought a Breva 1100 and rode it back to Atlanta - 780 miles (scenic route)
I flew to Chicago (far north side) and rode an EVT back to Atlanta - 720 miles (30 mph crosswinds most of the way)

Roper flew into Detroit to pick up his Convert, then spent a few weeks riding cross country zig sagging the entire way, ended up at my place ~6K miles later to be shipped to Austria along with his buddies horrid Indian Enfield.... Flying to another continent and riding an old Convert cross country suggests Pete had a lot of confidence in the folks he got it from and his own ability to fix it....

The gent that purchased my Norge flew from New Zealand and picked up the used bike with 26,000 miles on it trusting that it was as ok as I claimed. He then rode around the U.S. for a month. The bike was put in a container and flown back to meet him at home where he is still riding it.

Fly 'n get picked-up-in-a-van; 1000 miles (me in UK bike in Italy). Would have done fly 'n ride but 35 yr. old bike, service history unknown, at least 3 years standing (albeit in a warm garage) and several legal (insurance, registration) issues conspired against me.

In hindsight it was a good choice because 500 miles into my ownership I had a piston-to-exhaust-valve incident that would have been awkward and expensive to deal with in the middle of France...

I live in Las Vegas, and picked up my Norge at Riders Hill in Dahlonega, GA back in 2011.

It may be cheating a bit - I was working on a contract in the Atlanta area at the time, so I was flying to the city every week. Buying the Norge allowed me to skip the rental car or shuttle bus, spend the occasional weekend there without returning home, and explore a part of the country I hadn't ridden much.

I rode the bike back when the contract ended.

Couple of months ago I rented a UHaul trailer in the SF Bay Area and drove down to SoCal to pick up a 2004 V11 Le Mans Cafe Sport. Turned it into an overnighter with a stop in Buttonwillow (cheap motel with a Starbucks next door). Probably less than 800 miles round trip but despite having to dodge the California Highway Patrol since the speed limit for vehicles hauling a trailer is 55MPH it wasn't a bad trip. If I had known beforehand what it takes to lube ALL THREE of the zerk fittings on the drive shaft of this bike maybe I would have just stayed home and refilled my Xanax prescription. Lovely bike though.

Furthest I've gone to PU a Guzzi is 500 miles to get my used `04 750 Breva years ago. Since then I drove 700 miles to PU my new leftover `09 Piaggio 400 MP3 4? years ago. Never regretted either and still have both.
