Boot quest
« on: February 09, 2016, 06:41:19 PM »
I'm looking for some new riding boots.  Just plain old mc boots with a shift patch.  Zip up or velcro entry.  Loved my old Bieffe PiBis.  Everything I've looked at is way over-engineered for my tastes with shin guards, toe sliders and other protuberances.  Any recommendations?

Try a pair of the joe rocket sonics. About the best boots I have found for pricepoint  and longevity. Just bought a second pair for the next riding season, last pair lasted five years.

I was looking at these as I like the lower boot height.  They also have a full boot on closeout.

Hey foto- nice vid!  what a gorgeous day.  Tell me- I need to get wider boot than what i've got. All the Sidis I've tried have been narrow. Do the Combats fit wide American flippers?

I have sz 11 Vendramini Daytonas. Very nice boots and real leather. Turns out i need something wider, tho.

[url]http://www.gasolinaboots.com/images/autobahn2_500.jpg/url] I am very happy with my Gasolina Autobahn boots. I ordered with EE sizing and an extra inch in the shaft to accommodate my oversized calfs;(no up-charge). The quality and fit were perfect. Well worth the wait for a custom product. :thumb:

I have two pair of Dainese boots

http://www.dainese.com/us_en/trq-tour-goretexr.html

AND

http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/dainese-ssc-alpha-d-wp-c2b-shoes

Very happy with both boots. In fact, last night I took a pretty hard shot to the right boot (the full-boot at the top link). I was going about 75mph and a car must kicked up some kind of object, which hit me on the top of the right on the foot and even caused some application of the rear brake. Given the strength of the impact, I inspected the boot closely, but couldn't find any sign of the impact.

I wear the taller boots most of the time. The shorter boots are for my non-freeway commute, summer riding, or times when I want to walk around more at a destination.

I've had good luck with my Dainese "Dean" waterproof boots. Very comfortable and well made. They look like normal boots, so no protuberances or armor.

Edit: I just noticed that these are discontinued. But there is a similar "Cafe" boot that of course costs more...

$89 with free shipping, may order a pair as my boots are getting long on the tooth.

My EE foot width makes it near impossible to find 'real' motorcycle boots. Instead, I wear Red Wing boots (the round toe version) with a wedge sole.  The wedge sole fits the V7 perfectly and shifts don't involve pointing my toe straight down to the ground to fit it under the shifter peg.  The leather is thick and second to none.  Best yet, I can wear them all day at work or home or... wherever.  Looks good too with some boot oil rubbed in (gives them an old timey reddish brown hue).

I don't ride offroad so don't really need shin guards and all that.

I'm sure others are equally pleased with Red Wing, Wolverine, and other work boots (all made in America too!)

I've had a good experience with several pairs of Cruiserworks boots (currently made in the U.S.). I favor the traditional engineer styled boots, although they make other styles.

I currently wear a pair of Sidi On-Road touring boots and I typically recommend them to anyone considering boots.  However, Sidi has recently redesigned them and they are no longer all-leather but a hybrid textile boot, All-Road. Even Motonation, their US importer disagrees with Sidi's re-design.

They are probably still good boots.  However, I prefer an all-leather boot.  For that reason, unless Sidi goes back to the popular previous design, my next pair will probably be all-leather Vendramini Marathons or Daytonas. Prior to Sidi, Vendramini was my choice of boot.

I spent many sorry hours checking out bike boots and eventually finished up with a pair of these.

Luckily the long hours were not wasted. Try to find a pair of the old style they are going cheaper due to a upgrade.

My 50th HS reunion is this year.  Not expecting any pop ups.

Thanks, Cool Runnings and to all else who replied.  I just ordered a pair of the Joe Rockets.  Not exactly  what I was looking for, but it's time to move on.

I have a EEE.  Gaerne are wide.  I have a pair of SG10 for off road and a pair of Balanced Oil trials boots for going places.  No issues with width.  I love the Balanced boots but they don't have any more protection than a pair of work boots (less if you wear steel toes like I do at work).

Sidi Canyon Goretex are still leather, as far as I know. I love mine. Still going strong after several years and probably 100,000 km.

Yep.  I paid that for my Sidi boots.  12 years ago.  Still wearing them after over 100,000 miles of my abuse.

You amortize that out, and they're not really that expensive.

And, they're darned good boots.

Sidi Canyon Gore Tex are still $350 but not all-leather. Largely textile now.

Check out the Vendramini Marathon or Daytona.
