06 Breva V1100 Engine Oil Temperature Sensor

Whats up Guys
I haven't been on the forum in a hot minute. The Ole Guzzi is being a pain in my rear again in Lousyana. Well I finally got around to changing my Oil Temp Sensor the other day to finally get rid of a really annoying service engine light. Well for a couple of days at least then BAM!!!!!! EL SERVICE light again.
So I pulled the dashboard codes and shockingly code 07. So I get out the diag cables hook it all up get out the the GuzziDiag laptop. Then I noticed something that was even more worrying with Engine off Key on I get a normal reading on the sensor engine cold like 15 c. When I start the bike something worse happens the sensor bottoms out at -40 c when its 60 degrees Fahrenheit or around 15 degrees C outside. My wiring from the sensor is excellent to the pcm the only thing I haven't done was ever correct the startus intertuptus issue with bike.  Any Ideas?

You might have been unlucky enough to get a duff replacement

Go here http://www.guzzitek.org/gb/ma_us_uk/1100/Breva1100_Didacticiel(GB).pdf

Page 75 shows the resistances at various temps.
If the dash shows -40C there's a good chance the sensor has gone open circuit

Thanks Tris for the assistance, I wish my dash was just reading -40 degrees Celsius that would be awesome I would still ride anyway if it was accurate  unfortunately I am getting the -40 figure from my guzzidiag program when I start the Ole Gal up  :violent1:.

Shockingly with the key on and engine off the engine temperature sensor seems to read accurately, figured that out the hard way with an extremely hot oil sample and a mercury thermometer from a Babcock Wilcox Boiler. So I checked my wiring from the sensor to the PCM to confirm the resistances at the pins going into to that pcm that is in a fantastic spot via backprobe the connector. Everything checked out great to my dismay.

It is a really weird, Im starting to worry that the PCM is on the Fritz and me personally Id rather go buy another bike then spend a small fortune on a computer that has the calculating power of a sega genesis lol.

Also Tris thanks for the manual that was awesome.

Mhh puzzling

So going completely off piste

You are looking at engine temp and not air temp in Guzzidiag? I've only just got my copy (but not on this works PC ) but I think it shows both and something in the back of my head says its phrased funnily

The reason for asking is that page 67 of the manual shows the resistances for the air intake sensor. Interestingly is also shows -40C as the worst/open circuit condition

I'm not trying to teach my Grandmother to suck eggs so please ignore me if you've done any/all of this

That's all I have - but hopefully somebody else will come along that can put more light no the subject.

I'll be interested as to how this pans out as who knows when this malady might strike my bike - and its good to be prepared  :thumb:

What does guzzidiag show if you jumper the 2 pins of the sensor wiring together?

Just found this for the Stelvio while looking for something else http://www.guzzitek.org/gb/ma_us_uk/1200/Stelvio1200NTX_102009_Atelier(GB).pdf

Page 66 or so it tells you how to trouble shoot the oil and air temp sensors

Might help
