Bump . I've always been curious , does Mobil , or Castrol etc own the manufacturers that build their branded filters , or are they built under contract ?

Mobil One and K&N filters are made by Champion. As are several others.  You're just buying a name.  These are sometimes referred to as "Designer" filters.

Are the specs different ? Oh , thanks John  :thumb:

Could be, but this shows the filtering area, KN and Mobil 1 were quite a bit larger than the others.

Does it really make a difference, who knows.  Just letting everyone know what I ran across, so those who are inclined can take advantage of good price on the "designer" filters if they choose.

The specs differ according to most sources I could find. Information on sites including BobIsTheOilGuy.com and Calsci.com indicates the branded filters manufactured by Champion (and other firms) are often upgraded from that manufacturer's self-branded products. To my eye (I don't have test equipment), they are different (I've taken a couple apart after use, to see what they might have gathered - not much there). My Norge gets Mobil1 M1-102s - a small price for confidence in the product.

No intention to turn this into an oil (filter) thread, just sharing experience...

That is a GOOD deal.  I just ordered 6- M1-102 for my Stelvio.  Shipping was $4.99

I recently paid $12 plus tax for a Bosch 3330 (extreme capacity) at WalMart.

Just wondering how you guys came up with the M1-102, their application guide calls for M1MC-132 for the Norge?

M1-102 is a car filter, specifically Toyota Tundra v8
