Proportioning Valve on LM1
« on: February 20, 2016, 08:20:15 PM »
Setting up my LM 1 brake system with a proportioning valve from a same year SP. Has anyone done the swap and want to share thoughts ?. The swap is pretty straightforward asides from  the PV taking a bit more space than the original splitter .

I'll bet they are the same part #s assuming they are both for Tonti framed Guzzis.  The bikes are very much the same except for weight.

Sorry, no experience with this. The same year model SP had a proportioning valve while the LM did not? This reinforces my prejudice that proportioning valves are intended for inattentive touring riders instead of more sporting use.

I'm against proportioning valves, thinking that the original, true purpose of the integrated system is to get both wheels involved in the initial bite of deceleration, with the rider then determining if more force is needed at the front. They work very well that way for me.

Good luck with your conversion, though.

The valves I've seen use ride height to adjust braking while the LM used different pads. Regardless I like the LM simple manifold over the proportional valve-never found the thing to feel right.

the small "proportioning valve" was nothing but a manifold/splitter. The larger PV that came on the SP had a spring loaded thingy inside, that would block off (I believe) the front caliper when you really pressed on the foot lever.

I have ridden my CX100(LM II) both solo and 2up & loaded and have never felt any difference in the way the brakes felt.  The foot lever is for the left front & rear brake, the right lever is for the right front brake.
