OK, now I get the sequence:

Fella lists a bike, uses very old pictures.
Between the original and not relevant photos being taken and now, the somewhat sad bike is maltreated even more.
Turin checks it out and posts current pics of aged exhaust tape, broken fairing and further abused tank.

Man, is this thing backsliding. Start taking out the expensive bodywork and not running and I'm thinking 3 digits. The situation too, screams of having a "dirty" title if one at all.

Look for it soon on some "custom builder's" site as a Sporti based "Cafe" for $16,000.

I spoke to the owner on the phone a couple of days ago. The gents name is "Pete". seems like a nice fellow. doesnt know much about Guzzis but told me he has rebuilt some old HDs and Indians. told me he thinks it needs fuel pump replaced, but not sure about ECU. states he has an extra ecu that "has spark" . a couple days ago, I was planning to drive up to Phoenix with my trailer and $2000. in greenbacks, but now, ( Thanks Turin) I am having second thoughts. The guy told me all the bodywork on the bike was intact, and undamaged without any scrapes or dings!  Hmmm.
Now I am thinking, I wonder what other "hidden treasures" may be found in that bike, once you strip the plastic off? I would want to restore it and ride it. I wonder if its even worth $1500. in its current state? Help me out guys, I need to get back to "Pete" with a decision this evening....

Rick.

As a parts bike?  For sure.

It may be a bike you could use for modding into a standard by removing the fairing and adding handlebars.

I guess the question is what you want to do with it, and how much do you want to spend, when you can buy nice examples for $4000 to $5000 ??

If you're just wanting a nice Sport 1100 to ride, then this one probably isn't it.

If you need a bunch of hard to find parts for a Sport 1100, this could be a treasure trove.

If you want to build a naked or café, this could be a good starting point.

(if nothing major is wrong with the engine & transmission)

You are right "on the money" there ,Rocker. My plan for the bike would be to restore it and ride it. I thought that if it was too far gone for that I could always stash it in a corner of the shop, and cafe it out some day sorta like one of the "Moto Studio" bikes. As plan "B", if that didnt work out I figgure I could always part it out, and at least re coup my investment, plan "C".
I would imagine parting out a bike, and selling it that way would be a huge PITA, and I am not sure what parts would sell , and which ones I would get stuck with....
I think I would much rather restore/ride the bike.

 Rick,
Everyone has opinions so here goes mine. If it was me I would offer 1200 maybe even start at 1100 and not pay any more than 1400   He may be a nice guy but I would not bring $2000 with me if I were you

I would pass on it Rick.  By the time you buy this one then get it running and looking good, you most likely coulda had a Daytona.  There are enough turn-key 1100 Sports out there for short money.  Find one and paint it yellow.

I think I am going to pass on it. Thanks guys for the opinions, etc. Its just too beat up. If it wasa carbie, maybe, but i am afraid that bike could be a real "can o worms"  just waiting to be opened up.

My question pertaining to these 1100 sports is.....is it usual to see different colored faces on the tach and speedo on the same bike? reason why I ask I know of a 1997 for sale and this is the case.

Yes, as on the LeMans 1000, The Daytonas and Sport 1100s have a white-faced tach and a black-faced speedo.

This is USA I'm talking about.  At some point, maybe 1997, the world bikes got white faced speedos that matched the tachs.

Thanks. Awhile back I was in the market to buy a (relatively) low mileage Guzzi (mostly looking at 2000-2004 sports)and I ran across a few that were suspiciously low milage bikes and a couple had this oddity. My assumption was that the speedo's had broken and were replaced with new units thus the low odo readings.

Kind of the other way around.  If you look at the two pics above, you will note the 1980s vintage speedo was used well into the 1990s!

So, the Sport 1100s and Daytonas were using vintage speedos.

This doesn't apply to V11 Sports and Lemanses.  99-02 had matching white-faced Veglias.  02-05 had matching black-faced ITI instruments.  And yes, the black-faced ITI speedos had faulty odometer gears that would strip and so the mileage would be off.

This was not a problem on the Sport 1100 and Daytona's old school Veglia speedos...

I have become a bit skeptical when it comes to low mileage cycles.

I emailed him, but he's not interested in shipping.

Strange that the first pics don't show the frame slider and the cut fairing.  There's not much reason to do that unless you're going to flog the bike at the track.  I'd buy it for parts, though.

It didn't look like it'd ever been crashed, maybe tipped over in the garage. The original exhaust is in great shape( other than the tape), no dents or scratches.
I don't know why he cut the fairing. It's not broken, it's a smooth straight edge cut.
The bike has had some weird shadetree modifications and not much love I it's 54,000 miles. When the starter button was pushed it spun over really nicely with no odd noises. I'd venture to guess it's problems are electrical. I think it can be saved.  I made an offer but it was turned down.

Looks like the usual problem of someone not knowledgeable about these bikes with unrealistic ideas about their value.  There's a dealer here in Colorado who's been advertising a Used '14 V7 for $8000.  I keep thinking I should let him know that I could buy a new '15 for $7400 with free shipping.

We see a LOT of mods like that in Arizona and I almost always put it down to meth consumption or... "tweaking".

My Crud-orado is absolutely a victim of 120 hours straight of better ideas - when they weren't re-building toasters or trying to morph TVs with garbage disposals.

If you're a guy with one complete Sport, and another non-runner one that you're building as a track bike, you might have need for a few extra parts.  I'm that guy.

It's much cheaper to buy a whole parts bike than it is to buy lots of individual pieces.  You can sell what's left when you finish.

I honestly think some wiring somewhere is disconnected, or there is a bad relay keeping it from running. I did make an offer that is still open. ( I have extra Daytona RS bodywork so it'd only be a matter of having the tank painted to clean up the cosmetics .)

Hi Turin, The seller told me he would accept $2000. cash. I thought that was still a bit high. Do you mind telling us how much you offered ?  I am no longer interested in the bike myself, but just curious.

After negotiations this bike will be joining me at Dave's home for wayward Guzzi's.  The deposit check has been sent and I'll pick it up in April.  My biggest concern is how the fairing was cut up on the right side.  Is there anyone near Vegas or Wisconsin that has a sport 1100 fairing that I may be able to pull a partial mold of from to help in the repair of this one ????  A damaged fairing for pieces would work also.  Thx, Dave.

Air-Tech still lists the fairing but at $414... You may wanna roll yer own anyhow.

Me? I'd end up epoxying my elbow to my ear in trying to repair/replicate one so $414 isn't so bad as the hospital visit or the Smart&Final size bottle of acetone.

Dave, does the owner still have the piece he cut out of the fairing? I think even without the piece, that can be repaired with some fiberglass cloth/resin/ a bit of work with a dremel, etc.
Good luck with the sport!

Yes, I'm sure I can repair it.  I'm not going to buy a new airtech at this point.  I'll try reboot.  A damaged one with the right side good would be ideal.  Thx guys.

That bike has been listed for quite some time.  I sent a deposit out about a month ago and pick it up next wed.  It has some issues but just way too Purdy for me to pass up.

The fuel pump is probably just gummed up, a rap on the bench may break it free, I bought a K100 flying brick recently in similar condition, my Bro Kiwi Kev fixed it up for me.
