The years really fly by .... fast!
« on: February 28, 2016, 07:20:17 PM »
I just sent this email to my long-time riding buddy, Tom.  Thought it might provoke a thought or two on WG.

I purchased my 1991 R100GS from Andy Pelc BMW in Canton, Michigan in March of 1991.  Same year I joined  BMWMOA.  Hard to believe ..... I was 48 years old for both events.  25 years later, holy sh*t, I'm 73, I've owned the GS for 25 years, and have been a member of MOA for the same number of years.

Wow!
Main ride:  2008 Guzzi 1200 Sport (sold July 2020)
2012 Griso 8v SE (sold Sept '15)
Reliable standby: 1991 BMW R100GS
2014 Honda CB1100 (Traded Nov 2019)
New:  2016 Triumph T120 (Traded Dec 2021)
New:  2021 Kawasaki W800

Wow!

Tell me about it!

I'm right behind you, having bought my first BMW and joined BMW MOA in 1994 -- and then bought my first Guzzi and joined MGNOC in 1999.  Though that Beemer is long gone (to be replaced by others), my original Guzzi is still in the garage.

Best,

Bob , it's that weird time compression thing that happens as we get older . Spinal Tap is on TV right now , and having never really watched it am kind of paying attention . If you asked me when it came out , would have guessed the mid 1990's , surprised to find out it was released in 1984  Really , 32 years ago ? WTH

Oh I can beat that. I recall "Songs from the Wood" as a relatively new Tull album. I just looked: 1977.

Unfortunately I kind of lost interest , maybe later .

Yeah , and Dire Straits still seems like a new R&R band .  A couple of years back a young lady just gave me a blank stare at the mention of Curt Cobain , damn , wasn't that last album only released like 2 years ago ???

Yeah. Dire Straights. The years keep flying by like the high line poles.
But then it could be far worse. We're racking up experiences and memories. And always remember that you might have been born a barnacle.

I still had dark hair and beard when I bought my T-3 in 89. My T-3 has hardly aged at all but I can't say that about me. Oh well...better than the alternative.

He once owned a Harley Davidson and a Triumph Bonneville.
Counted his friends in burned-out spark plugs
and prays that he always will. . .

Time, that bird, doth take to the wing. The Rubayat of something or other I think. It is hard to believe that its been over seven years since the Drs gave me less than two years to live. Managed to put on a few miles on a couple of motorcycles and one vespa since then. I know the Old Man will catch up to me one of these days, but no matter what I will always have yesterday. A lot more yesterdays than I thought I would have. So for as long as I am able I will throw a leg over the grey goose and take it for a honk-a-bout. The years do fly by. Hold your loved ones close and your motorcycles closer. Wait -maybe I got that backwards.

Glad the doctor was wrong.

Nah, you got it the right way, just don't ride the motorcycle backwards.

Respect.

Bought my first NEW anything (Harley 1200 Sportster) in 1993 at 25. I'd compared it to the R100R and often wondered if I should have bought that.

Bought my first BMW (1978 R80/7) in 1996 at 28, same year I bought my Road King. I'd compared it to the R1100R and was certain I'd made the right decision even though I'd liked the R.

In 1998 I heard my first unborn child's heartbeat for the first time. I literally left the OB's office and drove straight to a meeting where I bought my 96 R1100RS and started a tradition.

To rage against the excuse that "I'm selling this bike because I'm having a family bla bla bla" from that day forward, whenever I was going to be a dad again, I made sure I BOUGHT ANOTHER BIKE!

Time, that bird, doth take to the wing. The Rubayat of .

"Omar Kayam" (sp)

Written by Samuel Taylor Coleridge while in a heroin fug. Dropped off the cam before he finished it and so it remains unfinished.

Time certainly flies.   My first bike, the '48 Matchy never even had rear suspension. Mention the Small Faces and people go huh?

My first Guzzi, my only Guzzi, that I bought new is now 12 years old. I am retired and about the only Small Faces track they play on the retro station is "Tin Soldier". I have to put my CD on to hear Renee, Song of a Baker and the Story of Happiness Stan.
