Norge 8V replacement battery?

I'm starting to obsess about a replacement battery for my 8V Norge. I'd prefer to stay away from wet batteries, and budget under $150. I had an Odyssey PC 680 in my last bike that worked out really well, it lasted abut eight years and no leaks. Reading through the forum, it's not clear that a PC 680 fits in an 8V Norge, can anyone confirm? If not the 680, would a different Odyssey fit and provide enough crank?

If an Odyssey won't fit, and lithium iron phosphate is beyond my budget, there are AGMs such as Motobatt.

My Norge came with an AGM, when it needs a replacement the same thing goes in there. My 2nd battery is a Lithium.

Did your Norge come with a flooded battery?

Came with a Yuasa, and the Yuasa replacement is AGM but the electrolyte comes separate.


My BMW came with a fully wet battery with a vent.

The Yuasa batteries are good.

My Sport 1100 came with a pair.  Eight years on the OEM set.  Eight years on the replacements. A couple years on the third set, and they're fine.  Yes, you pour the acid into them, then seal them up.  And then forget about 'em.

My other bikes received Odyssey replacements, and they've been good, too.

Yuasa batteries can be purchased ready to go. If your source sells them otherwise, a new source is in order.

I just checked the Yuasa site, they sell them factory activated. Who knows what they do in other countries than the USA though.

I've never bought a battery and then had to wait for it to be activated...

Check the date of manufacture, make sure it's within a few months and be done with it. If it comes from a bike dealer and you're told it takes xxx hours, they arent a good source, find better.

You can then go online and buy them, arrives in a few days, ready to go. Get overnight night shipping and have it the next day, no big deal. I support dealers but if they don't have it ready, so goes.

In fact, why would it be a bad thing to buy an unactivated battery and then activate it? Wouldn't that be the ultimate fresh battery? These are actual questions, by the way.

Look for the battery for a Stelvio, spec'd exactly the same, same dimensions and claimed to be interchangeable. The Stelvio battery is activated and sealed at the factory.

Battery posts are the same (again, according to YUASA).

Same battery fits a lot of bikes, it is common so you can probably go into lots of bike shops and they should have them.

Many Kawasakis and Suzukis use the same battery as the Norge. Might make it easier to find locally.

The top snaps permanently in place once the electrolyte is added.  It's no big deal.

Right.  When I was in the Triumph shop we filled them, permanently sealed them, and conditioned them for 24 hours prior to installation in the bikes.

Yeas now have a range of AGM batteries as well as the VRLA ones used as OE. Tell me what the designation is of the current VRLA and I'll find out their equivalent AGM. It may not meet your budget requirements though.

My stock Yuasa from 2009 is still going strong in the stelvio. For quality no need to change.

There is no secret which Yuasa AGM battery is applicable.

About $80.

A very common battery used by several other motorcycle brands.

At least in the USA.

I replaced my Yuasa with a Motobatt. They don't last forever, but I've found them reliable. Think they are from the US.

Just checked, the Odyssey will fit. Currently have the standard Yuasa fitted, no problems with it.

My battery died a few weeks ago.  I simply went to Batteries + and got a replacement.  It was the same one as the original one.  Only $100.  I am curious to know how the Shorai battery performs in the Norge.  At $275, I probably will only know from someone here.  Too rich for my blood!
