Guellepumpe
« on: March 03, 2016, 03:43:14 AM »
Been a few CX500 pics on the forum of late so I thought I'd throw up some pics of my old '79 beast.

John (Xlratr), when you' marry a sheila from Erlangen, her visiting biking friends might have fun playing a practical joke on you, which as an aussie kid you might decide to just grin and roll with.....

....so take a look at the tank.

I had this bike for a looong time.
Was my only mode of transport most of the time.
Took it everywhere, did everything I ever asked of it.
Even the dog rode it with me.

Cheers
Craig

They were, and are, an unlovely turd but you can't fault em as a motorbike. Pricks who try to 'Cafe' them need taking out the back for a good kicking but use them for what they were? Well, they were a lot better than an early V50.

Yeah Pete, Old Ugly the Shit Pump dealt with daily cross-Brisbane commutes, runs down to Sydney and back for party weekends...and with the rusted out pipes, had patrons on Mt Glorious second guessing just what the hell was coming up the hill
Once I even followed a mate on a GS up Duck Creek Rd to O'Reilly's.

Looking at those old photos, it's no wonder I fell for this.

Sometimes, beauty is absolutely in the function.

The CX series functioned almost flawlessly.

Pity about the form but beauty'll often get one only as far as a fella can push it.

I like the naming. I'm known for shutting down dog snobs by making up names and entire lineages for my dogs. One of my and my families favorites was our Yavapai Weasel Hound. Kept the goofy know-it-alls from breedissecting my dog every time they came across her.

"Oh yeah, she's an ancient breed specifically bred to keep weasels and other vermin out of Yavapai Indian settlements.... It's on the internet." That last being its own delicious torture!

That's hilarious.  My father once rearranged BUICK on his own car after repainting it, so it read KUBIC, and told me of a gas station attendant who was convinced it was "one of them foreign cars", but that's small potatoes compared to Guellepumpe.

That's very cool! :-). I guess there aren't many people outside Germany who know the background to this, so here's the story.

Werner is a cartoon character. He lives in North Germany, works as a plumber and rides a chopped Horex. In the way of bikes, he and his friends hate anything modern or plastic (WG content ! :-)

So one day, Horst the farmer has a problem with his manure pump. Werner helps him by flagging down a CX500 rider, who (unfortunately for him!) asks if he can help. Horst and Werner proceed to connect his water pump to the manure tank (while calling the unfortunate CX owner a "cast wheel wanker"), and the rest is history. Ever since then, the CX500 had been known as the Guellepumpe (manure pump).

John - That's brilliant! I've sort of heard the story, but never seen the cartoon.
I'll print that and send it straight to the pool room!

Todd - I like your style
The dog on the bike was the smartest thing on the planet and LOVED being on the bike.
He was a Border Collie/Blue Heeler mix that I'd just say was a "Blue Border Collie, very rare" to confuse people.

Todd - I used to regularly have guys ask "What the hell is that?!? Some wierd east european import?"
When told that it just said "Shit Pump", some would laugh, some would feel ripped off, and some would just mutter "that's a bit harsh".
Cheers
